Weekly Early Dismissal/Daily Schedule: Students in grades K-8 will be dismissed at 2 p.m. on Mondays to provide teachers with
professional learning time. The 2019-20 schedule is:
- Preschool: 8:50-11:30 a.m. (morning session) and 12:30-3:10 p.m. (afternoon session), Monday-Friday
- Morning Kindergarten: 8:15-11:20 a.m., Monday-Friday
- Kindergarten with OKEEP and Grades 1-6: 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday and 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday
- Grades 7-8: 8:30 a.m.-2p.m. on Monday and 8:30 a.m.-3:17 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday. Early Bird classes (band, choir and orchestra) will take place from 7:45-8:25 a.m. Monday-Friday.

The Grove Foundation recognized 22 District 58 fifth graders with Helping Children Grow Awards this school year. This award is given to students who display extra effort, good character and a willingness to help others. Congratulations!

Communication Satisfaction and Preferences Survey
now through Wednesday, June 12. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete, and the District will use survey feedback to guide its communication improvement efforts.

El Sierra School is proud to offer the Watch DOGS program! Each week, this program invited positive male role models (mostly dads) to help out with different classroom activities.
The students and dads alike enjoyed valuable bonding time!

Hillcrest
students raised $9,048 for Watts of Love, a nonprofit that provides lighting for Ugandan families! Through this fundraiser, they will donate approximately 181 lights, benefitting about 1,265 people. Thank you for your generosity, Hillcrest community!
|

Fairmount
third graders brainstormed ways to encourage their peers to read all summer long. The class picked a few student representatives, who met with Principal Mrs. Niforatos and presented their ideas. She was very impressed and approved their suggestions. Great initiative!

Last week,
Indian Trail
fourth graders went on a field trip to Feed My Starving Children in Aurora, where they filled 185 boxes to feed 109 children around the world for a year. In other words, their service work will provide 39,960 meals! Way to go, students!

Herrick's
PRIDE (Polite, Respectful Individuals Doing Extra) Award winners participated in a leadership workshop led by Second City. Herrick Librarian Jeff Berger said he hopes the workshop will help students hone their leadership skills and empower them to become school leaders in the future.

Non-profit Mothers Against Violence in Schools teamed up with the Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club to fundraise for 11 new Buddy Benches at District 58 elementary schools.

Whittier sixth graders chalked the sidewalks and walls around their school with positive messages. When teachers, staff and students arrived on Wednesday, they were pleasantly surprised! This activity aligned with Whittier's theme of the year: "Choose Kind."

students did many activities to celebrate Kindness Week last week. For example, fifth graders helped their first grade buddies read books!
