How to Get Rid of Household Hazardous Waste

How to Get Rid of Household Hazardous Waste

Most of us have some type of household hazardous waste leftover and stored in half bag amounts, and almost empty bottles, cans, or bins from spring painting, cleaning, special projects, and/or gardening projects. These items should not be thrown into the regular garbage pickup as they can be very hazardous to our environment. So what do you do with all of this stuff?

Even though Leon Valley's contracted waste service company is Tiger Sanitation, Bexar County has teamed up with Waste Management to offer a free program for the removal of all of these hazardous waste items. The program, called "At Your Door", is available to qualified residents of suburban cities and unincorporated areas of Bexar County and they will pick up these items at your home.

Below is a partial list of acceptable items:

Household Chemicals
  • Ammonia, cleaning compounds, bleach, floor stripper, drain cleaner, rust remover, carpet/upholstery cleaner, tile/shower cleaner, and more
