Dear SJ Families:

Good afternoon and happy Friday. We hope all is well with you and your family. First, we would like to thank our SJ parents and students for partnering with us as we continue to navigate this new school year under circumstances we couldn't have imagined. Our students have been doing an excellent job and our faculty and staff should be commended for their dedication and hard work in keeping our students safe.

Recently, we have enhanced our safety procedures and gathered additional information in order to ensure that should we have a positive case of Covid-19 at St Joes, we are well prepared. We'd like to share this updated information with you.

I. Reporting a Medically-Confirmed, Positive Case of Covid-19
  • We have created a dedicated phone number for anyone who needs to report a medically-confirmed positive case of Covid-19. A case is "medically-confirmed" by a test and professional diagnosis.
  • This dedicated phone number is: 203-378-9378, press 343 to report.
  • Please save this number to your phone.
  • All health information is kept confidential.

II. Communications from St Joes Once a Positive Case is Reported and Confirmed
  • In the case of a confirmed positive COVID test, the Trumbull Health Department will be notified immediately and contact tracing will begin.
  • St Joseph High School will follow Trumbull Health Department recommendations regarding quarantine, additional testing, or modifications to the school day.
  • All parents will receive a communication via email should a student or staff member test positive. (If you are not receiving SJHS emails, please reach out to communications@sjcadets.org).
  • If it is recommended that St Joes switch to a virtual model due to a positive case(s) on on campus, that change will be communicated via email, text message, and voicemail.

III. Contact Tracing, Communication, and School Closure
  • Working with the Trumbull Health Department and the Office of Emergency Management, we will begin contact tracing immediately upon a report of a confirmed, positive case of Covid-19 in our school.
  • If a student or staff member has been in direct contact with the person who has tested positive, they will be notified either by phone or email.
  • "Direct Contact" is considered anyone closer than 6 feet away (even with a mask) for a period of 15 minutes or longer.
  • To clarify: All families will receive notice of a medically-confirmed positive case of Covid-19 in our school. However, only those with direct contact will receive an additional notification about their exposure to the virus and will be asked to quarantine for 14 days. If you are not contacted about possible exposure due to direct contact, you will not need to stay home or exclude yourself from school activities.

IV. Testing Locations
  • Parents should continue to monitor their child’s health and the health of their family members for COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Children with COVID-19 generally have mild, cold-like symptoms, such as fever, runny nose, and cough. Vomiting and diarrhea have also been reported in some children. Children with certain underlying medical conditions, such as chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, or weak immune systems, might be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Contact your child's healthcare provider regarding any concerns.
