SOCS COVID-19 Response
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We hope you and yours are staying healthy and well during these unprecedented times of crisis and uncertainty. Obviously, the worldwide spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a serious public health concern. The Skin of Color Society (SOCS) is working to mitigate the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and inform our members of the most current recommendations for addressing changes to their practices.

We encourage members to visit the  SOCS NEW COVID-19 website resources page for dermatology news, updates, initiatives, and SOCS program details. It is our hope that the resources page will be an active living page that will be a compilation of industry communications, related links, podcasts about practice management guidance, support ideas for your patients and recommendations from the  CDC WHO AAD , ILDS and the AMA . Please feel free to email [email protected] if you have pertinent information to share on the resources page.

As you are all aware, the in-person 16th Annual SOCS Scientific Symposium was cancelled   due to the pandemic. However, we will be delivering abstract educational content (both oral and poster) via a virtual conference in the months to come. We are expecting an excellent virtual turnout given the high interest in the scientific content that has been planned.

Once in-person meetings can take place again , we will hold a networking reception to honor outgoing board members, research grant winners, and observership grant recipients. Our plan is to host this reception during one of the larger dermatological meetings held later in the year.

We are reviewing novel educational initiatives to keep us all engaged, and we are confident that 2020-2021 will be an exciting and fulfilling year for us all. Please feel free to reach out to the SOCS management team or any member of the Executive Committee should you have questions and/or comments.

Sincerely,

Lynn McKinley-Grant, MD, FAAD – SOCS President
Donald Glass, MD, PhD, FAAD – SOCS Secretary/Treasurer
Seemal R. Desai, MD, FAAD – SOCS Immediate Past President
Kimberly Miller – SOCS Executive Director
