Message from Pastor Tim
Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

Thank you to Wendy Wellington, Amy Tardiff and team, and the band for a great farewell and reception for Mark Edwards last Sunday. That's our second tough goodbye of the summer.

It is good to know that our music program is in the hands of three very capable people Justine Koontz, Pat Sise and Paul Doughty.  As our interim directors, they will be guiding us through this time of transition, which happens to correspond with our fall kick-off.

Verse and Prayer

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O LORD of hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints
for the courts of the LORD;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O LORD of hosts,
my King and my God.
Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise.

-Psalm 84:1-4
God of Heaven and Earth: Though you are above all, you choose to be in all creation. You flow in winds of the ocean. In the silence of wooded wilderness, you are there. You are among the bustle and clamor of city streets. In our quiet places of home, you reside. Still you have decided to be in the presence of your people, gathered in sanctuary spaces across time and space. Grant us awakened eyes to see you, give us discerning ears to hear you, illumine our hearts and minds to sense you in all places. Guide us always to people and places of praise, to sanctuaries and houses of worship where we can once again know you. Amen.
Notes for you!
Along with the transition from summer to fall, start of the school year, and the end of the nasty summer heat waves (hopefully!), comes the start of mid-week rehearsals and the “choral year” at Ark & Dove!  Mid-week rehearsals will start on Thursday, September 6th from 7:00-8:30 pm. If you haven’t sung with the choir before but are thinking about joining, please speak with me. If you have been singing with the choir, I look forward to working with all of you! For those of you wondering what’s coming down the pike musically, you’ll have to wait for the next Arkive….

Justine Koontz
Interim Music Director
jkoontz@qis.net
After attending Ark and Dove for several years as a member of the worship band, I am incredibly humbled and honored that Paul Doughty and I were chosen to be the interim directors of contemporary music. I greatly appreciate your trust in me to serve as a worship leader. Sharing this opportunity with people I love makes it that much more special to me. I look forward to collaboration with Paul, the worship band, Justine Koontz, and the choir on projects. The guidance and knowledge shared by Pastor Tim and Pastor Jon will be taken to heart, so that I may grow as a worship leader. Thank you all for this opportunity, and I look forward to contributing to our welcoming community of worship and mission.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.  – Psalm 98: 4

Mission Ministry
Winter Relief: October 15 through October 22
If any of your kin fall into difficulty and become dependent on you, you shall support them; they shall live with you as though resident aliens. Do not take interest in advance or otherwise make a profit from them, let them live with you. - Leviticus 25:35-36

God calls us to take care of each other. We will be hosting Winter Relief October 15th - 22nd. What is Winter Relief? Through an all-volunteer effort, Winter Relief has operated as a seasonal Emergency Temporary Shelter since 1992. Hosted at different Anne Arundel County religious facilities each week, from late October through April, the shelter is a safe and comfortable refuge for those experiencing homelessness throughout the coldest months of the year. Each facility provides services, meals and spiritual guidance to the guests during their designated week. It is a unique opportunity for people in the community to reach out and share their blessings with those less fortunate. There will be many opportunities to help. Sign-ups will be in the lobby starting September 2nd. Please consider signing up to show these 25 men hospitality and the love of God!

For questions please contact Ylonda Fauntleroy yfauntleroy@gmail.com, Debbie Saylor saylordeb@yahoo.com co-directors this year or Cheryl Schafer csscas@verizon.net Mission Elder.

Deacons' Corner
Deacons' Meals
The Board of Deacons provides care and assistance to members and friends of Ark and Dove. One of our ministry areas is the coordination of meals for households going through a physically or emotionally difficult time. When a family member is ill or injured, or a baby is born, it may be difficult to keep up with shopping and cooking. The meal coordinators, currently Judy Cooper and Annetta Fenstermacher, maintain a team of kind and generous volunteers who make or buy meals when a need arises. Although we are not able to serve as the main source of meals for a household, we are able to deliver occasional meals to multiple households over an extended time period thanks to the team of volunteers working with the deacon coordinators. To learn more about the deacon meals or volunteer to provide them, please contact Judy Cooper (jkcooper@umd.edu). You can also contact Greg Makar, the current moderator, for more information about any deacon topic (GLMakar@juno.com, 301-483-8255).
