E-Arkive The Electronic Newsletter for Ark and Dove

This Sunday at both the 9:30 Traditional and 11:00 Contemporary Worship Services, Pastor Tim and Laura Willoughby Perry will be sharing their experience from the
Spring 2017 Presbytery of Baltimore Intercultural Encounter with our mission partners in Guatemala!

MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JON

Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

I look forward to celebrating Communion and Mother's Day with you this Sunday. We will be hearing from Pastor Tim and Laura Willoughby Perry about their experience last week in Guatemala. I have heard stories and learnings from Tim and others in the Presbytery this week. You will not want to miss hearing about their trip!

I want to bring your attention to some special things coming up in the life of Ark and Dove. Next week, May 20, we are hosting an event with Carol Howard Merritt who is a sought-after speaker and author of three well-regarded books on faith. The event is for any church leaders in the Presbytery, and I invite you to join us for a time of learning and discussion. Please let me know if you have any questions. I also need a few people to help orient guests to Ark and Dove. Let me know if you can help.

We have been hearing snippets from "Resurrection Alleluias" a cantata performed by our choir and orchestra. The pieces have been beautiful and uplifting. We will be hearing it in full next week, May 21, for a single service at 10:30 am. Invite your neighbors and friends!

Our confirmation class is hard at work on their faith statements. I have really enjoyed our class this year. There was never a dull moment. On June 11, the 2016-2017 confirmands will join the church. Mark your calendars and come rejoice with our youth as they take an important step in their life of faith.

Lastly, Vacation Bible School is coming to Ark and Dove July 9-13. We are having an interest meeting on June 4. Anyone interested in joining our VBS team, please join us after 11 am worship.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Jon

VERSE AND PRAYER

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
-John 14:12-14

Holy One: In Christ, you reconciled the divided, healed the sick, taught and practiced true love, brought good news to the poor, proclaimed truth, unburdened the oppressed, spoke words of hope, and worked for shalom. Help us to believe in you, that we might do these things and more. This day before us is full of opportunity to do the work of peace, freedom, love, and hope. Give us courage to do these things in your name. Amen.

Transformations!

Transformations: The Capital Savings Fund Campaign
TRANSFORMATIONS are coming.  Have you seen the orange string outline outside of our Building?   If not, look right as you come in the door this Sunday and take a walk after church -- that's the outline of the building expansion for which we are saving! And that's not the only transformation that's coming. There will be some significant changes to the existing space inside out church too!

So what, exactly, will this building transformation be?
  • A much larger lobby, nearly double the current size, to welcome visitors and provide adequate fellowship space
  • A new office location, freeing space for the lobby and Pastor Tim's office for use as an adult classroom/meeting room
  • A larger Marshall Room, to better accommodate large gatherings
  • Shower facilities, for our Winter Relief guests, visiting groups, and members of our congregation & community in temporary need
  • Minor improvements to the sanctuary to improve our worship experience
These transformations have been among the many things that our congregation has repeatedly asked for, and the possibilities these changes bring are exciting! But how will we pay for it? Through a separate, 3-year pledge. An additional pledge that will allow us to save up enough to take out a short-term construction loan.   Watch for more information about Transformations and please pray about your role in transforming our church. TES FOR YOU

Please join us this Sunday for an Anthem by our "Joyful Noise" Youth Choir.  They will be presenting a piece from their Summer musical, "Plane Ol' Mission Trip" to give you a little preview.  And of course, mark your calendars for Sunday, May 21st  -- Single Service Sunday!  You will hear an incredible cantata, "Resurrection Alleluias" presented by our choir and orchestra.  You will not want to miss it!

Love,

Ed and I got together last week and floated some ideas on activities for the Voyagers in the future. We'd like to share some of those ideas at the meeting and get your input. And if anyone wants to join us as a co-leader, we would welcome you! Looking forward to seeing you on the 3rd! R.S.V.P. Paul Doughty (padough@verizon.net)
