Looking Ahead to SY 21-22
Enrolling Your Students for Next School Year
Re-enrollment for the 2021-22 school year is now open and will remain so throughout the summer. All returning students should complete the registration process and have all paperwork submitted by July 31st.
Families will have two choices for school supplies- purchase an EPI prepackaged box or buy on their own. Teacher Lists is a great resource and way to shop if they want to do it on their own. PYP School Supply Lists are available here. If you wish to purchase the package from EPI, you can visit their website and use the code "WES794."
The PYP exhibition represents a significant event in the life of both the school and the student, synthesizing the essential elements of the PYP and sharing them with the whole school community. It is an opportunity for students in their final year of the PYP to exhibit the attributes of the IB learner profile that have been developing throughout their engagement with the PYP. For the 2020-2021 school year, student exhibitions have been inquiries into diversity, symbolism, and aesthetics. Students presented their exhibitions on Wednesday, May 26 to the PYP student body. We would like to share recordings of these presentations with the greater Westlake Academy community. You can find them posted here and by clicking on the above image!
In the final year of the MYP, each student completes an individual project on a topic that is of particular interest. The project is carried out within a global context and results in a clearly defined product or outcome. As a culmination of the MYP, the Personal Project is an opportunity for each student to demonstrate his/her ability to initiate, manage and direct their own inquiry. Congratulations to the Class of 2023! Click on the image above to view the Personal Project gallery.

Wanted: New Family Mentors for August 2021
Looking ahead to the fall, the WAHOC would like to have our New Family Mentors ready at the beginning of the school year. If you are willing to be a mentor for incoming families, please fill out the New Family Mentor Signup form. We will try to match you with families that have similar-aged children! You don't need to know all of the answers, but simply be there for support and guidance.
Presidential Volunteer Service Award Extension
The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is a national award that recognizes individuals who are dedicated to service. PVSA is not part of the Westlake Academy's IB service requirements for MYP or DP; however, many of our students qualify for this award.
Diploma Programme: Students must fulfill the DP Community, Activity, and Service requirement (recorded in ManageBac) in order to qualify for the PVSA.
Middle Years Programme: For the 2020-2021 school year, MYP students were not required to enter service as action experiences in ManageBac; however, MYP students who are applying for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award should still log their experiences and reflections in ManageBac to maintain consistent documentation for both programs.
*EXTENSION NOTICE: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the office for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award has given us permission to extend the deadline for the 2020-2021 award year.
The extension allows applicants three additional months to engage in service and count towards the award.
However, our award year will stay the same (June-May).
If students choose to use the extension, they may not count the additional service hours towards the 2021-2022 award year.
If you are interested in using the extension, please contact Mrs. Estrada and Ms. Maru for the new deadline.
