2024 Fall Outstanding Graduates

Congratulations, Fall 2024 CBCS grads!


A total of 326 students will earn degrees from CBCS during USF's Fall 2024 Commencement. The commencement ceremonies include 235 students receiving undergraduate degrees, 86 students receiving master's degrees, and five students receiving doctoral degrees from CBCS. CFS gathers to celebrate its achievements in 2024


The red carpet was rolled out to welcome the "stars" of the Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) to the department's annual fall luncheon. Filled with glitz and glamour, the Oscars-themed event provided an opportunity for CFS to gather and highlight the extraordinary work of the faculty and staff and honor individuals and teams from the community who go above and beyond to support CFS and its programs. Criminology student researchers present at ASC Annual Meeting


Graduate students from the Department of Criminology presented their research at the American Society of Criminology (ASC) Annual Meeting in San Franciso. Presentation titles included "Understanding Employers Perceptions of Employee Workplace Behavior on Hiring Decisions," "The Leviathan Revisited: How the Homicide Rate of El Salvador Declined by 91% Over Seven Years," and "Examining the Association Between Adult Entertainment Locations and Female Victimization." MSW student presents research at APHA conference


Master of Social Work (MSW) and Master of Public Health concurrent degree student Jacqueline Houston presented research from the USF Social Work Interdisciplinary Research Lab at the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting. Mentored by Associate Professor Manisha Joshi, PhD, MSPH, MSW, Houston shared their research which discussed the association between non-partner sexual violence, childhood and adolescent sexual abuse, forced displacement, and positive childhood experiences in urban Haiti. Bridges 2 Recovery Evaluation Phase 2 Contract from LTB

USF’s Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP) will conduct a project evaluation to identify best practices and measure key outcomes related to enhancing access to behavioral health services for individuals with substance use disorders who have intersected with the criminal justice system. There will be four phases. Phase 1 will include (1) pre-intervention systems analysis to evaluate cross-system capacities and collaboration through key stakeholder interviews, (2) pre-intervention outcomes analysis to evaluate baseline programmatic outcomes through de-identified administrative data secured by Live Tampa Bay, and (3) develop recommendations for system improvement. In Phase 2 and Phase 3, researchers will (1) monitor implementation fidelity through regular data analysis of de-identified data provided by Live Tampa Bay and key stakeholder interviews and (2) generate brief reports as needed to ensure implementation effectiveness. In Phase 4, they will generate a final report detailing performance and outcome data between baseline and follow-up.

PACT Study

Volunteers age 65+ needed for study on preventing Alzheimer's disease


The Preventing Alzheimer's with Cognitive Training (PACT) team is recruiting volunteers to participate in their research study to see if computerized training exercises reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Interested adults who are 65 years or older, do not have any neurological disorders, have not had a stroke or brain injury, and do not have mild cognitive impairment or dementia, should visit www.PACTstudy.org for more information.
