Town hall showcases AI and VR innovations in behavioral sciences
Last week, CBCS hosted the Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality in Behavioral Sciences Town Hall in collaboration with the Bellini College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing. Faculty from both colleges presented research, including projects that explore how these technologies can improve health outcomes, enhance learning environments, and expand access for diverse populations. Applied Behavior Analysis student receives $10K fellowship from longstanding community partner
Katie Pease, a student in the Applied Behavior Analysis online master’s program, was awarded the 2025-2026 USF Fellowship from Behavioral Consulting of Tampa Bay (BCOTB). The $10,000 fellowship was presented to Pease by BCOTB Director of Clinical Services Heatherann Tenowich. Read more.

ASL Interpreting students connect with Deaf community at first Deaf university in the U.S.
From Oct. 23-25, 17 students in the ASL Interpreting program traveled to Washington, D.C., to visit Gallaudet University — the first and only university in the United States for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The trip provided a valuable opportunity for the students to immerse themselves in Deaf culture. Read more.

Alpha Phi Sigma Tampa Chapter Donation Drive to Benefit Selah Freedom
In alignment with the 2025 national theme, “Trafficking,” the Tampa chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society) has organized a donation drive in partnership with Selah Freedom, collecting essential items for trafficking survivors. Donations may include gently used women's tennis shoes, materials for welcome bags for new intakes, requested hair products, and monetary donations. Click here for details.

Faculty are encouraged to share this unique opportunity with their students. We are seeking student storytellers to audition with their own creative piece (poetry, original music, comedy, essay, dance, or other artistic expression) about their lived experience with mental health and/or substance use disorder. By openly talking about these topics, we can help break down the stigma surrounding them. Students can sign up to audition here.

The INSPIRE Project (Innovative Supervisory Practices for Improving Retention & Engagement), supported by the Florida Center for Behavioral Health Workforce, is focused on understanding how supervision, mentoring, and other supports influence clinicians’ decisions to stay or leave the field. Help prevent opioid overdoses among adults 60+ in the Tampa Bay Area!
Freeman Gerhardt , PhD, and Nik Lampe, PhD, are partnering with Live Tampa Bay to better understand and mitigate drivers of the opioid overdose crisis among older adults in the Tampa Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area (Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Manatee, Sarasota, Citrus, and Hernando Counties).
Insights are welcome from healthcare professionals and other working professionals across sectors. Complete the survey!
