To adapt and test a nutrition education intervention for lower resource seniors with behavioral health conditions

Sponsor: The Humana Foundation

Dates: 1/25-6/26 (18 months)

Total Award Amount: $300,000

The purpose of this project is to create a first-of-its-kind nutrition intervention designed for low-resource seniors with behavioral health conditions (e.g., addiction, mental illness). It is an 18-month project to adapt and pilot test an adapted version of Good Affordable Foods (GAF) among this high-risk population. GAF is a nutrition education program that empowers low-resource adults to eat healthier and shop for healthier foods on a small budget. The adaptation and testing of GAF will follow the eight sequential steps of the ADAPT-ITT framework. Not only will the adaptations be made with their lived experience in mind, but by pilot testing the program, we will have preliminary efficacy data, setting the stage for it to become an evidence-based intervention.
