Nathan Maxfield, PhD, CCC-SLP, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), has been invited to serve as an associate editor for the Journal of Fluency Disorders. This invitation reflects the international recognition of Maxfield's research in the area of fluency disorders. His term will run for three years, beginning Sept. 1.

Criminology Associate Professor Fawn Ngo, PhD, was a special guest speaker at the third annual Global Forum Women Who Build event organized by the Gulf Coast Latin Chamber of Commerce. Ngo shared her work on the importance of cyber education for the limited English proficiency population.

First cohort of new Rehabilitation Counseling and Disability Sciences master's program graduates
A special group of students was among USF’s 2,612 graduates who were honored during the Summer 2024 commencement ceremonies: the first-ever class of the Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling and Disability Sciences program. While they are unique in their own ways, all four of the program’s graduates have one thing in common: they are dedicated to improving the lives of others, particularly those living with disabilities. Final cohort of Summer Research Institute scholars present their projects
Over the last 11 weeks, 13 students in the Summer Research Institute at the Florida Mental Health Institute (SRI@FMHI) gained experience with Institutional Review Boards practices, attended research and professional development seminars, participated in community rotations, and conducted an independent research project with guidance from a CBCS faculty mentor. Last Wednesday, each student presented their projects as part of Scholar Research Day.

MHLP assistant professor shares research on LGBTQ+ adults' Alzheimer's risk
Nik Lampe, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP), presented their Alzheimer’s Association-funded research entitled “Social Support, Isolation, and Cognitive Health among LGBTQ+ Older Adults in the United States” at an invited featured research session during the 2024 Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Philadelphia. MSW student receives Student Honorary Award for Research & Practice
Master of Social Work (MSW) student Jacqueline Houston received the Student Honorary Award for Research & Practice from the USF College of Public Health to support her travel and poster presentation at the American Public Health Association conference this fall. The competitive internal award will support her presentation of preliminary findings from a Social Work Interdisciplinary Research Lab study which investigates the associations between child and adolescent sexual abuse, non-partner sexual violence, forced displacement, and positive childhood experiences in urban Haiti.

The Prevent-Teach-Reinforce (PTR) Model Training facilitated by Rose Iovannone, PhD, BDBA-D, is an eight-hour training divided into two parts, offered on two different days. The trainings cover the PTR Model, research supporting its efficacy, and the five steps of the PTR process. Organizers recommend that individuals attend the entire training on both days.
