Session 7 of the Mental Health and Wellness in the Workplace course is now available
The seventh –and final– session of the Mental Health and Wellness in the Workplace course is now available! This module introduces the use of community, organizational, and national resources and how to use them in the workplace to support wellness of employees. This session will include a presentation from the Office of the Surgeon General on workplace wellness, a presentation from Mental Health America about the Bell Seal designation, and information on how to access local and national resources to promote workplace wellness. CSD researchers examine efficacy of hearing aids for reducing long-term cognitive decline in older adults
Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) faculty Theresa H. Chisolm, PhD, CCC-A, vice provost, and Michelle Arnold, AuD, PhD, CCC-A collaborated with Victoria Sanchez, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, F-AAA on the Aging and Cognitive Health Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE) study, which found that, in older adults at increased risk for cognitive decline, hearing intervention slowed down loss of thinking and memory abilities by 48% over three years. The overall ACHIEVE study was led by researchers at Johns Hopkins and seven additional contributing institutions, including the team of CSD researchers who led the hearing intervention provided in the study. Going global with USF Social Work
Angel Reyes, Marissa Norton, and Samantha Emerick discuss their recent study abroad experiences led by faculty in the USF School of Social Work. The students talk about their hands-on experiences within community-based health care and social service organizations in Peru and Spain, where they had the opportunity to examine alternative health and mental health practices and learn about the socio-cultural context of health. The group compares what they saw in those countries to practices in the United States and discusses how improvements can be made. Listen to the episode.

Social work PhD candidate discusses self-advocacy in new podcast episode
Stephanie Rosado, a PhD candidate in the School of Social Work, was invited to be a guest expert on Arthritis Foundation's podcast series “Live Yes! with Arthritis.” In the episode, Rosado explores the definition of self-advocacy and provides strategies to make yourself heard. She also discusses why it’s important to advocate for under-represented people.

ITRE scholar presents research at College on Problems of Drug Dependence Annual Scientific Meeting
Miracle Macias, a current scholar in the NIH-funded USF Institute for Translational Research Education (ITRE) in Adolescent Substance Use program and a master’s student at Northern Arizona University Psychological Sciences, presented her research at the 85th annual College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) Annual Scientific Meeting. CPDD is the oldest and largest organization in the U.S. dedicated to advancing a scientific approach to substance use and addictive disorders. She was also a recipient of a nationally competitive travel award from NIH/NIDA Office of Diversity and Health Disparities. As a travel award recipient, she was invited to a lunch and closed networking session with NIDA program officers and learned more about NIDA funding opportunities and career trajectories.
