CBCS undergrad earns funding for bilingual education research

Joanna Agrinsoni, an undergraduate research assistant in the Department of Child and Family Studies and student of language, speech, and hearing sciences in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, was awarded summer funding to continue work on a bilingual intervention project.

Speech-language pathology students and faculty support Parkinson’s community at Moving Day Tampa Bay


Clinical faculty and graduate students from the Speech-Language Pathology program participated in the Parkinson’s Foundation Moving Day Tampa Bay walk at Al Lopez Park. First- and second-year graduate students joined clinical faculty in raising funds, volunteering, and walking in support of individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease. Read more.

Nathan Maxfield delivers training on stuttering in school-age children


Nathan Maxfield, PhD, CCC-SLP, an associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, presented a workshop to speech-language pathologists at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. The workshop addressed current issues in supporting school-age children who stutter. Read more.

Behavioral health journal supports global mental health goals


The publishing company Springer Nature recently announced that The Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research, led by Editor-in-Chief Bruce Lubotsky Levin, DrPH, MPH, associate professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies, has made significant contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through its published research. Hana Kim wins Best Poster Award at international conference


Hana Kim, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and director of the Language in Aging and Stroke Rehabilitation Lab, was selected as a recipient of the Best Poster Award at the IC-KDA & ASAD 2025 Conference for her presentation, “Identifying Key Handwriting Features for Early Detection and Monitoring of Dementia.” Read more.

Charlotte Purcell King earns ANCDS board certification


Charlotte Purcell King, assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, has earned board certification from the Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (ANCDS). This certification indicates that the recipient possesses advanced knowledge and skills beyond those acquired through basic professional certification and licensure. Read more.
