TIP Lab project featured on the "One in Ten" podcast 


Amanda Connella, MA, graduate research assistant at the Trafficking in Persons - Risk to Resilience Research Lab (TIP Lab), and Sandra Stone, PhD, professor and assistant dean for graduate studies for the Sarasota-Manatee campus, recently participated in the "One in Ten" podcast, sponsored by the National Children's Alliance, a coalition of children's advocacy centers. Their episode, titled "Boys: The Invisible Victims of Child Sex Trafficking," addresses what places boys at risk for sex trafficking and how to help them. Listen to the podcast.

School of Social Work completes first phase of innovative virtual simulation pilot project


The School of Social Work's AI Task Force has successfully completed Phase 1 of its Virtual Simulation Pilot Project. This initiative is designed to enhance social work education by providing students with opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge and master essential competencies necessary for practice in diverse settings, including behavioral health, mental health, healthcare, schools, substance abuse, and the criminal justice system. These simulations facilitate the improvement of practice skills both prior to and during field internships. Additionally, experienced social workers can benefit from these virtual simulations as they explore new practice areas or transition between different settings. Read more.

Navigating Mental Health in Schools: Services, Access, and Interdisciplinary Roles (Part of the 2024 Project MABAS Virtual Summer Institute)

June 7 | 9 a.m. - noon


This presentation, led by Matthew E. Foster, PhD, MA, MEd, is designed to provide school-based professionals with an understanding of the landscape of school-based mental health services. Participants will explore the variety of mental health services available within schools, understand the processes for accessing these services, and learn how to utilize screening tools for identifying children at risk of or experiencing mental health challenges. The session will also cover the criteria required to receive services and delineate the specific roles that school social workers and behavior analysts play in the provision, coordination, and support of these services.
