CFS faculty member appointed to Presidential Advisory Committee on Accessibility


Laura Rodríguez López, EdD, an assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) and interdisciplinary training director with the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities, has been appointed by President Rhea Law to serve on the Presidential Advisory Committee on Accessibility. In this role, López will work with the council to advise the president on issues affecting USF faculty, staff, and students, while also monitoring the campus environment for accessibility concerns. She is excited to serve on the committee and advocate as an ally for the disability community.

Audiology students present doctoral research projects


Eleven audiology students presented their doctoral projects at the Audiology Research Day. Completing these projects provides students with a research experience that will allow them to become better consumers of research and gives them basic tools that may be applied to generating clinical research in their future professional careers. The students started working on the projects at the beginning of their second year in the program and shared their work with faculty, fellow students, and family members.

Galea speaks with others in Lima Peru

Social work associate professor visits Peru to discuss strengthening mental health initiatives


Jerome Galea, PhD, LCSW, an associate professor of social work and agency mental health coordinator of the United States Agency for International Development, visited the San Fernando School of Medicine in Lima, Peru, on Nov. 13. The visit aimed to explore possible inter-institutional cooperation and alliances to strengthen mental health initiatives in the university community. Read more.

Aging studies PhD student awarded for outstanding research poster


Natalia Babenko, MPH, MS, CPH, a PhD student in the School of Aging Studies, was awarded the Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization Poster Award from the Gerontological Society of America. Distinguished University Professor Bill Haley, PhD, Brent Small, PhD, and fellow PhD student Joanne Elayoubi contributed to the poster titled, “Social Engagement and Depressive Symptoms: Differential Effects in Older Adults With and Without Cancer.”

PACT Study

Volunteers age 65+ needed for study on preventing Alzheimer's disease


The Preventing Alzheimer's with Cognitive Training (PACT) team is recruiting volunteers to participate in their research study to see if computerized training exercises reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Interested adults who are 65 years or older, do not have any neurological disorders, have not had a stroke or brain injury, and do not have mild cognitive impairment or dementia, should visit www.PACTstudy.org for more information.
