Kayla Coogle

ABA Master's Student Receives 2022 BCOTB Fellowship

Kayla Coogle, a student in the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Online Master’s Program, received a fellowship offered through BCOTB in Tampa. The fellowship provides a two-semester stipend for a student who can work 20 hours per week at BCOTB as their practicum placement, and then is willing to work at BCOTB after graduating from USF.

BCOTB has been one of Tampa’s leading providers of ABA therapy services for sixteen years. With the goal of improving the lives of children with autism by providing tools to bring about meaningful and positive changes in behavior, BCOTB therapy is designed to assess and treat both problem behavior and pre-academic and social skill deficits in an ongoing evaluation of each child’s individual needs.

ABA Program Director Dr. Ray Miltenberger and ABA Online MA Program Coordinator Dr. Anthony Concepcion, along with BCOTB President Kelley Prince (USF '05), presented Kayla the fellowship funds to be used toward completing her degree. Kayla’s plans upon graduation are to continue working in a clinical setting focused on younger children with autism.

State Opioid Response Technical Assistance (SORTA)

Sponsor: University of Missouri

9/30/2021-9/29/2022

Total Award Amount: $130,000

This funding extends an effort to support the Pinellas County Opioid Task Force in reducing overdose deaths through providing consultation on developing and implementing model-based decision support tools. In this project, we are working with researchers from Northwestern University to develop an agent-based modeling tool that uses community level data to predict the impact of various community interventions known to reduce overdose. This tool will help the task force make decisions about how to deploy limited resources efficiently. Modeling tools have been applied to many business problems and to other public health issues but have not previously been applied toward addressing substance use problems. The output from this contract will be a guidance document for communities interested in adopting modeling tools to improve decision making regarding resource allocation for addressing overdose deaths.

CFS Residential Treatment Survey Cover Photo

Appropriate Care and Treatment Study

The study team at the University of South Florida Department of Child and Family Studies is conducting a national online survey of former youth residents of residential treatment facilities and their parents and caregivers to understand their experiences and perspective of the care received by the facilities. The types of facilities include programs such as therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness camps, addiction treatment centers, residential treatment centers, and boot camps.

The survey will be completed online via a web-based survey link. The information shared will be anonymous and cannot be linked to individuals in any way. We will create a report based on the answers provided by all survey participants to inform policymakers, parents, teens, and treatment providers with the goal of improving services and regulations. The survey will take about 15 minutes to complete.

If you are a parent of someone who attended a residential program as a teenager between 2017 and 2021 you are invited to complete the parent survey.

If you are a young adult who attended a residential program as a teenager between 2017 and 2021 you are invited to complete the young adult survey.

Follow this link to learn more about study eligibility and to complete the survey: https://www.usf.edu/cbcs/cfs/research-training/surveys/index.aspx
