Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy (MHLP), recently participated in an international webinar on reducing stigma in mental health. Kosyluk presented alongside the Mental Health Director for Peru’s Ministry of Health, Dr. Vanessa Herrera Lopez, who discussed initiatives in Peru to address stigma and increase access to mental health services.

Criminology assistant professor of instruction recognized for outstanding journal reviews | |
Tom Hyslip, PhD, an assistant professor of instruction in the Department of Criminology, was selected as a recipient of the Emerald Literati Outstanding Reviewer Award. Recipients of this award are recognized for the timeliness, quality, and depth of their reviews. Hyslip was honored for his review for "Policing: An International Journal," which covers research on all topics relevant to policing that focus on theory, policy, and/or practice.

Aging studies doctoral students host virtual chat on parenting in academia
School of Aging Studies doctoral students Joanne Elayoubi and Charity Lewis co-hosted a virtual Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization informal chat on the benefits and challenges of being a parent in academia. The chat focused on promoting parent-friendly environments in academic and/or research settings, developing better communication skills with mentors/employers regarding parenting and work balance, and identifying ways to better address the possible stigma associated with parenthood and academia. It was open to individuals who are parents, hoping to be parents, and individuals who want to support colleagues who are parents.

FMHI annual colloquium focuses on peer support and recovery
This year’s annual Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) fall colloquium at the USF Marshall Center brought together experts to discuss the domains of peer support and recovery, integrating practice, policy, and research. Featured presentations were made by Kristin Kosyluk, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy, and peer support agency program directors and peer support specialists.

The School of Social Work hosted a celebration in the MHC Atrium to mark the 10-year anniversary of its study abroad programs. Titled “Celebration of a Decade of Global Education: Embarking on the Future," the event gathered USF World Vice President Kiki Caruson, PhD, CBCS Dean Julie Serovich, PhD, Education Abroad leadership, alumni of study abroad programs, and current students. Call for Participants: Interactive, SMS-based Chatbot Program
Alexandra Albizu-Jacob, MPH, a CBCS doctoral candidate and graduate research assistant, is seeking USF college students experiencing test anxiety, social anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges to participate in their study involving an interactive, SMS-based chatbot program. The research study includes interacting with the chatbot program over three sessions and providing feedback on the prototype.
