Aging Studies Professor Stars on "Inside USF: The Podcast"

Dr. Kathy Black

Last Friday, Kathy Black, PhD, starred on "Inside USF: The Podcast" in an episode titled "Creating a more age-friendly society." Dr. Black, a professor of Aging Studies and Social Work at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, discussed age-friendly practices and described the impact of one's environment on a person's ability to live fully across their entire life course. She explained her efforts on the local, state, and national levels and how she is not only working to help redefine aging but also to improve the quality of life as people age.

CFS Research Associate Professor Selected for Florida Department of Health's New Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Workgroup

Dr. Liz Perkins

CFS Research Associate Professor and Florida Center for Inclusive Communities Associate Director Liz Perkins, PhD, RNLD, FAAIDD, FGSA, was invited to serve on the Florida Department of Health's new Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Priority Area Workgroup, a part of the 2022-2026 Florida State Health Improvement Plan. Dr. Perkins was selected for her expertise in the particular needs of Floridians with developmental disabilities and their families.

Criminology Student Recognized as Member of USF Family of the Year


Kelin Gaddis and her family were honored as the Family of the Year by the USF Office of Parent and Family Engagement. This award recognizes USF families who have displayed commitment and unwavering support for their USF Bull. Gaddis is a current criminology student and continues a legacy of the Gaddis-Golub family at USF. According to the Office of Parent and Family Engagement, Gaddis knew since she was 11 years old that she would attend USF. Read more.

Department of Criminology Announces 2022 Wall of Fame Inductees


The Department of Criminology announced the 2022 Wall of Fame, a group of distinguished alumni and criminology ambassadors who will join a prestigious group of past inductees. The Crime and Justice in America Mock Trial Team will also be honored with the Hawkins Community Partnership Award. The annual induction ceremony will take place March 11, 2022 at the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club. Read more.

Arturo Garcia

ABA Doctoral Student Receives Josie Torralba Romero Scholarship


Arturo Garcia, MA, BCBA has been awarded a scholarship through the National Latino Behavioral Health Association's (NLBHA) Josie Torralba Romero Scholarship Fund. This scholarship supports outstanding Latino students who are pursing a degree in mental health, with the aim to alleviate the disparities that exist in Latino behavioral healthcare. Garcia is currently a doctoral student in the Applied Behavioral Analysis program. He has served as a Guardian Ad Litem for the State of Florida and is a board certified Behavior Analyst. Read more.

Speech-Language Pathology Still High on List of Job Growth


Speech-language pathology (SLP) was ranked as one of the top high-impact occupations according to an analysis conducted by Encoura. Using metrics around projected occupational growth, median wage hourly earnings, and number of new jobs created, the organization listed speech-language pathology as one of the top five occupations requiring a master’s degree. SLP is also noted as one of the top high-impact occupations that were identified both mid-pandemic and pre-pandemic.
