CBCS welcomes new school and department leadership
The College of Behavioral and Community Sciences (CBCS) has announced that George Burruss, PhD, professor in the Department of Criminology, has been named chair of the department. Debra Dobbs, PhD, professor in the School of Aging Studies and academic director of the Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies, and Chris Simmons, PhD, associate professor of instruction in the School of Social Work, have also officially accepted ongoing leadership roles as directors of their respective schools. Department of Criminology recognizes John Cochran's six years as chair
The Department of Criminology at USF recognizes John Cochran, PhD, for his six years of leadership as department chair. Cochran led the department through a pivotal period, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unification of faculty across USF’s three campuses. Read more.

Aimee Dietz recognized as fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
Aimee Dietz, PhD, CCC-SLP, associate professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has been elected as a fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She will be formally recognized during an awards ceremony at the ASHA Convention on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, in Washington, D.C. Read more.

Jerome Galea shares mental health expertise at global health summit
Jerome Galea, PhD, LCSW, associate professor in the School of Social Work, delivered an invited talk on global mental health on July 31 at the inaugural Global Health Summit, co-hosted by the University of Malta and the University of Central Florida. His presentation was titled, “There Is No Health Without Mental Health: Key Priorities in Global Mental Health.” Read more.
