Please join us for the first General Membership meeting of the New Year on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on Zoom.
We are excited to welcome State Senator Mike McGuire and Sonoma County Supervisor Susan Gorin. They will give an overview of funding priorities at the state and local levels along with their perspectives on how philanthropic groups could “fill in the gaps”.
We have great hope for a return to in-person events again later this year. In the meantime, as we cope with this latest surge of the COVID Omicron strain, we will continue on Zoom. Thank you for registering and for your continued engagement and support. Together, we continue to make a profound impact in our community!
Guests are welcome to attend but must register in advance to receive the Zoom link.

LIME Foundation - 2021 Impact Grant Winner
At our January meeting, the Liaison Committee met on Zoom with the LIME Foundation’s founder and executive director, Letitia Hanke, and its program director, Star Brumfield, for our first update on their use of our 2021 Impact Grant to expand their NextGen Trades Academy. The LIME Foundation plans to use our grant to add two trade academies per year in 2022 and 2023, increasing enrollment by 60 students for a total of 240 students.
Fourteen youths (four females; ten males) were enrolled in the January academy, and recruitment is underway for the February, March, and April academies. The February academy will consist of an all-female group of seven Rancho Cotate High School students who will compete in the 2022 Design Build Competition sponsored by the Construction Industry Education Foundation. The students will design and build a farm stand to be used to distribute organic produce on campus that is grown by fellow Rancho Cotate students.

Stewards of the Coast - 2021 Community Grant Winner
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods applied for a 2021 Community Grant to help reopen the parks after the Walbridge Fire burned 55,209 acres. The parks were closed for 16 months. The fire backed its way down through the Austin Creek State Recreation Area, through the Bullfrog Pond Campground causing damage to picnic tables, bathrooms, fencing and trails.
The Impact 100 Redwood Circle grant was mainly used for two things - to replace and pay for the 3,000 yards of fencing and pay for the felling of damaged trees in Armstrong Grove. Much of the 3000 yards was not previously fenced so they were thrilled to be able to do this. They also worked with Youth Ecology Program of Sonoma County to harvest 50 cords of wood from the felled trees which were then sold to help cover expenses.
Executive Director Justin Lindenberg said that they would never have been able to open and improve the trails at Armstrong so quickly without our grant and they were so appreciative.

Coastal Seniors - 2021 Community Grant Winner
In 2021 Coastal Seniors was awarded a $12,500 Community Grant to help defray the cost of preparation and delivery of a monthly average of 400 home-delivered meals to qualifying seniors and disabled adults. This included expanded service to the Kashia tribe of Stewarts Point Rancheria and to Timber Cove.
Carolyn Andre’, Board Chairwoman, reports that the agency was indeed successful in filling the needs of the community in spite of operating with a reduced staff and a 153% increased demand for their food service. They also lost their CEO this past year.
Gratitude from clients is evident in the following quotes that Carolyn shared: “My mom wouldn’t have made it without you.” “I don’t know how we would have gotten through the pandemic without you” (from Timber Cove) “Our people really enjoy your meals and the delivery for older people.” (from Koshia tribe).

Farm to Pantry - 2021 Community Grant Winner
Farm to Pantry applied for the community grant to help meet and exceed their 2020 goal of providing fresh produce for people with food insecurity. Their goal was to use the money to help exceed their 2020 levels of food gleaned. As you can see, 2021 far outpaced the year prior:
- Quadrupled the amount of food gleaned compared to 2020
- Increased gleans from 7 per week to 20 per week
- Increased properties harvested from 40 to 350
- Increased their volunteer base from 40 to 300
- Increased their staff from 2 to 7
In addition to providing healthy food to people in need, the grant helped our community deliver boxes to families, provide food to chefs who cook for those without homes or shelter and rescue 350,000 pounds of food.
