Community Connection

August 2011
NEW CISNT LOGO

The 2011-2012 school year has finally kicked off and with one week behind us, we have already begun serving students.

I want to express my sincere thank you to all of our very generous school supply donors! We were donated more than $10,000 worth of school supplies by businesses in the community. Most of it has already made it to the hands of students in need across Denton and Wise counties, helping them start off the school year ready to succeed.

This week we kicked off with 8 after school programs and 16 daytime programs up and running. In just one more week, we will be opening 10 more after school programs across Lewisville ISD and Denton ISD. We anticipate serving over 3,000 students during the year and will be looking to the community more than ever for support to help our students succeed.

Please see below for opportunities to get involved with our programs and impact the life of a child forever. We look forward to working with you as we begin this exciting journey together!

Mentoring
At Communities In Schools of North Texas, we love volunteers! It is the work and commitment of our volunteer mentors and tutors that push our students to improve their academic performance, decrease the number of missed school days, and have better behavior in school and at home.

School has started and we are looking for mentors. If you have an hour a week and would like to be a mentor to an at-risk student, we have a place for you. Just follow the steps below and we'll get you on the road to changing the life of a child!

School Supply Drives Make a Big Difference to Students

School supplies

As we approached the end of summer and the beginning of school was drawing closer, many businesses in the community had school supply drives to help provide for the students we serve.

We would like to say an overwhelming THANK YOU to the following businesses, churches and organizations for their efforts! This was, by far, the largest effort we've seen collecting supplies! We are so grateful for your hard work!!

A huge thank you to the following:

Crow Horwath LLP

Garden Ridge Church of Christ

Cloud 9 Salon
