2024 Chamber Citizen of the Year

County Commissioner Janet Long

recognized for public service

    For her decades long service to the people of Pinellas County, Janet Long has been named the Chamber’s 2024 Citizen of the Year. She will be recognized at the 71st Annual Meeting & Awards Breakfast on Friday, Sept. 27 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort.

    Commissioner Long was elected to the Pinellas County Commission in 2012 and was reelected in 2016 and 2020. She will retire when her current term ends in November.

    Prior to this, she served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010 representing District 51. She was a Seminole City Councilor from 2002 to 2004.

The Chamber joined dozens of business and community leaders for Pinellas Education Foundation’s recent ChangeMakers 2024 breakfast. It featured a presentation by Pinellas County Schools Supt. Kevin Hendrick, seen here. There was plenty of fanfare for the first time “A” rating Pinellas Schools received for the 2023-2024 school year. It marks a major milestone in the 20-year history that the Florida Department of Education has rated schools.
