Honoring Dads and Father Figures in Macon-Bibb | | |
At Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, Inc. we know strong families build strong communities — and that includes recognizing and celebrating the dads, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and other father figures who play an important role in the lives of children and youth.
June is Fatherhood Awareness Month, but honoring these important men doesn’t stop here. Whether it’s through our Head Start programs, family engagement efforts, or community partnerships, we’re committed to including and uplifting all father figures year-round.
Here are some simple ways we encourage communities to celebrate and engage dads:
- Listen and Learn. Take time to understand what interests and supports matter most to the fathers in your life. Their insight helps shape more inclusive and engaging programs.
- Make It a Family Affair. Events that include the whole family make it easier for busy dads and caregivers to participate and connect with others.
- Celebrate Beyond June. Just like moms, dads deserve to feel valued all year. We encourage ongoing recognition that reflects their love, leadership, and presence in their families and communities.
Let’s continue working together to support and empower the men helping to raise the next generation in Macon-Bibb.
Happy Father’s Month — and thank you to all who show up, support, and serve as role models!

At Macon-Bibb County Economic Opportunity Council, safety is a top priority—for our staff, students, seniors, and the entire community. This June, we kicked off our Safety Initiative to promote safe habits, raise awareness, and support a culture of preparedness across all our programs.
June is National Safety Month—a great reminder to take simple steps that protect our well-being at home, at work, and on the road. From checking smoke detectors to staying hydrated in the heat, small actions can prevent big accidents. Let’s work together to create a safer, stronger community!
| | Enroll your child in Head Start or Early Head Start today! | |
Head Start isn’t just about education, it’s about nurturing the whole child! Our program provides a safe, supportive environment where children grow socially, emotionally, and academically. Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3 and Head Start serves children ages 3 to 5. These programs focus on the development and wellbeing of the whole child—from learning to social and emotional development to language and literacy skills to physical wellness and nutrition. Both programs actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes.
Who is eligible? Families who meet federal income guidelines, residents of Bibb or Monroe counties, children from birth to 5 years old. These programs are free for eligible families.
