Welcome the New Year with Opportunity & Support

A Message for the New Year

As we begin a new year, Macon-Bibb Equal Opportunity Council remains committed to strengthening families, supporting children, and helping individuals achieve greater stability and self-sufficiency. January is a time for fresh starts, and we are here to ensure our community has access to the resources and services needed to move forward with confidence. We look forward to continuing our work together to build opportunities across our region.

Winter Assistance & Essential Services

Winter months often bring higher utility costs and increased financial strain for families. MBEOC offers programs designed to help households stay safe and secure during this season, including:

  • Energy Assistance (LIHEAP): Help with winter heating bills. Click Here
  • Emergency Support Services: Assistance for qualifying households facing urgent needs. Click Here

We encourage eligible households to apply early, as funding and appointments are limited during peak winter months.

Open Enrollment: Head Start & Early Head Start

Enrollment continues for Macon-Bibb EOC’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Head Start offers more than early childhood education, the programs provide safe, nurturing environments where children grow socially, emotionally, and academically, while families receive meaningful support.

  • Early Head Start: Serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3
  • Head Start: Serves children ages 3 to 5
  • High-quality education, health services, and family engagement
  • Resources and referrals to support long-term family success

Families interested in enrolling or learning more are encouraged to visit our Head Start site.

A National Day of Service

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed nationwide to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a pivotal leader of the American civil rights movement. Dr. King’s advocacy for racial equality, voting rights, economic justice, and nonviolent action helped advance civil rights during the 1950s and 1960s and continues to influence social progress today.

As a National Day of Service, MLK Day calls on individuals and organizations to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service and community engagement. Macon-Bibb Equal Opportunity Council encourages residents to reflect on Dr. King’s vision by supporting workforce development, educational access, and programs that promote equity and opportunity for all members of our community.

Parent Spotlight

We’re celebrating Agnes Barden Head Start parent Kharee Cray, who recently completed all requirements to become a Certified Surgical Technologist at Albany Technical College! This milestone reflects her hard work, dedication, and commitment to building a strong future for herself and her family.

Kharee isn’t stopping there. She plans to continue her education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with the long-term goal of becoming a Physician Assistant.

Her passion for learning and caring for others is a wonderful example for our Head Start community.

When she’s not studying, Kharee enjoys coloring as a way to relax and unwind, and loves reading self-improvement books that support personal growth.

We’re proud of Kharee and excited to cheer her on as she continues her journey!
