Did You Know?

Macon-Bibb Equal Opportunity Council (EOC) has been serving our community since 1965. Originally part of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Department, EOC became an independent nonprofit in 1985. Its mission is to help individuals and families improve their quality of life through a variety of programs and services, continuing a legacy that began during the national War on Poverty.

October is Head Start Awareness Month! This month shines a spotlight on how Head Start helps children and families with early education, health, and family support services. Learn more about the program and get involved in supporting early childhood development in our community.

Give Your Child a Bright Start with Head Start & Early Head Start!

Head Start and Early Head Start are more than just learning programs; they nurture the whole child in a safe, caring environment where children grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

  • Early Head Start supports pregnant women, infants, and toddlers up to age 3.
  • Head Start serves children ages 3 to 5.

Our programs focus on every part of a child’s development, from developing language and literacy to supporting social-emotional growth, physical health, and nutrition. We know parents are a child’s first and most important teacher, which is why family involvement is at the heart of everything we do.

Who is eligible?

  • Families who meet federal income guidelines
  • Residents of Bibb and Monroe counties
  • Children from birth to age 5

These programs are completely free for eligible families.

Enroll your child today and give them the foundation for a lifetime of success!

October

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It’s a time to remember that breast cancer touches 1 in 8 women and even 1 in 1,000 men here in the U.S. This month is all about taking steps to protect your health and show support for friends, family, and neighbors who are facing this disease.

National Women’s Small Business Month

Celebrate the transformational impacts women entrepreneurs make in our communities. There are 11 million women-owned businesses across the U.S. (and growing!)

National Fire Prevention Month

It’s a great reminder to take simple steps to keep your home and family safe from fire. According to the National Fire Prevention Association, home fires, injuries, and deaths go up in the winter when we start using heaters. Staying warm is important and taking precautions can help prevent dangerous fires.

Tackling Hunger Month

It’s a time to help make sure no one in our community goes to bed hungry. Hunger isn’t always visible, but it’s a real issue—1 in 6 Americans, or 33 million people, don’t know where their next meal will come from.
