Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Our Head Start Centers celebrated National Reading Month by honoring Dr. Seuss's birthday with exciting programs dedicated to all things Dr. Seuss and the joy of reading! Observed annually on March 2, this nationwide reading celebration recognizes Dr. Seuss’s tremendous contributions to children’s literature and his role in making reading fun for kids of all ages. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Celebrate AmeriCorps Week

March 9-15, 2025

This AmeriCorps Week, we celebrate the transformative power of service and the incredible impact of everyday actions. Across the country, AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are leading change and strengthening communities.

We want to thank our own AmeriCorps Senior volunteers, part of our Foster Grandparent Program, for all they do here in our own community. This program connects dedicated volunteers aged 55 and older with children who have exceptional needs. As mentors, tutors, and caregivers, Foster Grandparents provide nurturing support that helps guide children toward a bright and successful future.

By volunteering an average of 5 to 40 hours per week, Foster Grandparents offer comfort and stability to children in schools, childcare centers, and community organizations. In return, volunteers often experience improved health, a stronger sense of purpose, and a deep connection to their community.

Join us in celebrating the extraordinary change made possible through service and consider becoming a part of this life-changing program. For more information, contact Latrice Hodges, Foster Grandparent Program Coordinator, 478-738-3240.

National CACFP Week

CACFP Week is a national education and information campaign sponsored annually the third week of March by the National CACFP Sponsors Association. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger. The CACFP brings healthy foods to tables across the country for children in childcare centers, homes, and afterschool programs as well as adults in day care. Join us in recognizing what CACFP does for our community March 16-22.

Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month—a time to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of women throughout history. But "herstory" isn't just found in textbooks; it’s created every day by women in our communities, workplaces, and homes. Herstory is the teacher inspiring young minds, the entrepreneur breaking barriers, the caregiver showing unwavering love, and the friend offering strength and support. This month let's honor not only the trailblazers of the past but also the everyday women whose quiet courage, resilience, and impact shape our world. Every act of leadership, kindness, and perseverance contributes to the powerful story of Herstory.

Macon Cherry Blossom Festival

March 21-30

Welcome to the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World!

What started as a 3-day event with 30 activities has grown into a month-long celebration with hundreds of events, earning recognition as one of the top festivals in the South, U.S., and North America.

Thanks to the Fickling Family Foundation's annual donation of cherry trees, Macon maintains its title as the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World.

Come see us as we take to the streets to celebrate this year’s festival in the parade!
