Community Advisory Notice:

Area of Beach near Sanjon Road Temporarily Closed

Ventura, Calif. – Out of an abundance of caution, the City of Ventura has fenced off an approximately 100-foot perimeter near the stormwater drainage at Sanjon Road while it manages cleanup and remediation. The closed beach outfall area is situated near Harbor Boulevard and Sanjon Road.

Debris and ash were released into the stormwater system after a commercial structure fire, located on the 2000 block of East Main Street, on May 10, 2022.

The City is actively working with Ventura County Environmental Health, the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, California State Parks, and additional local and state agencies to manage cleanup operations, take environmental samples in the area, and minimize any impacts to the environment and marine life.

The area will remain closed until cleanup efforts are complete. The public is advised to avoid the impacted area and keep pets on leashes.

As more information is available, it will be posted at www.CityofVentura.ca.gov.
