Community Advocates Connections
Happy October!

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are spotlighting the incredible generosity of a few of our many Milwaukee Women's Center supporters. Along with our dedicated staff, they help to provide for, feed, and encourage adults and children who are surviving domestic violence. In this newsletter, you'll discover the creative ways they're enabling survivors to move ahead in their lives and thrive. We're inspired by their work and hope that you will be inspired by them too, whether it's by volunteering to cook a meal, sponsoring a care package, or showing the world how much you love your Harley! The possibilities are endless.

In gratitude,
Andi Elliott

Support Survivors during Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While we honor and support survivors every day of the year, Community Advocates’ Milwaukee Women’s Center encourages everyone to participate in the  Domestic Violence Awareness Project’s campaign to do "1 Thing"  to support survivors in October.

"We’re always surprised by and grateful for the creativity of our supporters and volunteers," said Andi Elliott, Community Advocates CEO. "Many of them come up with fun and easy opportunities to contribute to our work with survivors of domestic violence."

Here are some examples of our fantastic supporters to inspire you during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Volunteers Melanie Maddux and Matthias Letson-Maddux cook dinner for Milwaukee Women’s Center residents each month.
The Brookfield-based Nancy Jo Baratti Unit of Mary Kay is donating a care package to the Milwaukee Women’s Center for each $30 sponsorship; sponsors will receive a $30 Mary Kay credit.
House of Harley-Davidson is looking for female riders for their 2019 calendar, which will benefit the Milwaukee Women’s Center.
Public Policy Institute Launches Training Center
It’s still a work in progress, but Community Advocates Public Policy Institute’s training center will be opening its doors soon at 6900 W. Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, as a training and meeting space for large groups (with ample free parking). We’ll be open for business in November, so keep watching this space for updates.
Energy Assistance Heating Season Has Arrived
Community Advocates is a proud partner in Milwaukee County’s Energy Assistance Program . To launch the 2018-2019 heating season, we hosted a kickoff party for the program—and our new Energy Assistance site—with a little help from V100.7’s Reggie Brown, the Milwaukee Fire Department, face painters, and more! Located next door to our former location, you can find us at 6900 W. Brown Deer Road, Suite 110. Look for the Energy Assistance logo! Extended hours are available through October 31 at all six Energy Assistance locations in Milwaukee County.
Circles of Support for Men Returning from Prison
Recognizing that individuals transitioning from incarceration to living in the community need extra care and accountability, monthly Circles of Support for men are forming at Hephatha Lutheran Church, St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, and Project RETURN. These circles, based on restorative justice practices, include a shared meal with participants and facilitators. They’re organized by the Milwaukee Reentry Council, MICAH, Project Return, and Community Advocates Public Policy Institute. Get details and registration info here.
Milwaukee Project Homeless Connect
