Community Advocates of Northern Indiana (CANI) looking to Partner with Schools to implement Operation Fit Kids
Greetings! My name is Nicole Otis, and I am the Outreach Director for Community Advocates of Northern Indiana (CANI). I am excited to share that we are launching the next installation of the FitKids program in schools throughout the region.
Operation FitKids is a program aimed at teaching students about the health hazards stemming from obesity and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Participants will gain more knowledge regarding ways to feel good in body and mind through physical activity and healthy food choices.
FitKids is a 5-day program that takes 1 hour or less per day. We offer a detailed curriculum for grade levels 3rd-5th as well as 6th-8th. Typically, this program is executed in physical education class with support from the instructor. The program's curriculum includes components on fitness, nutrition, self-esteem and confidence.
CANI is a non-profit organization committed to achieving health equity by eliminating racial and ethnic disparities and achieving optimal health for residents in Lake and Porter counties. We want all residents to be healthy! Achievement of this goal comes through advocacy, education and awareness initiatives, promotion of public policy, systems change and improving access to quality care for everyone.
I would be happy to discuss the details of the FitKids program and how we can roll this out in your school. Please contact me to schedule a time to meet. I can be reached via email at notis@canihelp.org.in or by phone at 219-333-9496.
