Safety Alert - Old Town Carjacking
Dear Neighbors,

Chicago Police have issued an alert after a carjacking Thursday night around 10 p.m. in the 200 block of West Eugenie. According to police, the victim exited his vehicle to
help his family into the car when an offender entered the vehicle. The victim attempted to open the door and was dragged as the offender drove off. The car was recovered in another neighborhood.

The offender is described as an African American male, 5'06" to 5'08" tall, 130-140 lbs., short hairstyle.

Police are seeking any video of the crime. If you have video from Thursday, December 27th around 10 p.m., particularly from Eugenie Street, please contact contact the Bureau of Detectives – Area Central (312) 747-8380. Reference: JB569575

I have requested increased patrols in the area. Additionally, we have asked Commander O'Shea of the 18th District to attend the upcoming Beat Meeting in Old Town. He will explain his strategy for protecting our community, and combatting this unacceptable level of crime.

What You Can Do:

Police advise -

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • If confronted by an assailant, remain calm and give up your property
  • Memorize any unique physical characteristics (scars, tattoos, acne, limps, etc.)
  • Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.
