On Thursday, August 1st, Community Board 17 hosted our annual Youth Happen’n at Paerdegat Park. The event brought together organizations, camps, community members, and elected officials in a vibrant display of unity and support for our young people.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the organizations and camps that participated, as well as to the CB17 Board and Committee members who volunteered their time and contributed resources to make the day a success. We also thank our elected officials who came out, engaged with families, and demonstrated their commitment to supporting youth in our community. Thank you to the 67th Precinct for their continuous support each year.
Youth Happen’n is more than just a day of fun—it represents the true meaning of community spirit. It is about creating safe, welcoming spaces where our young people feel a sense of purpose and belonging. It is about showing them that they are surrounded by a community that cares deeply for their growth, development, and future.
A special acknowledgment goes to East Flatbush Village, led by Eric Waterman and Chantal Archibald, for their leadership in coordinating the lunch section, and to God Squad, whose young people, under Nathan John's guidance, took charge of the snack and juice station. Their efforts not only nourished the day’s activities but also showcased the leadership skills and responsibility that these organizations cultivate in their youth—skills that prepare them for real-world success.
On behalf of Community Board 17 and the Youth & Education Committee, I extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who made Youth Happen’n 2024 a memorable and impactful event.
