What You Can Expect This Winter

As the cold weather approaches, Con Edison crews are preparing for winter storms and working 24/7 to reinforce our energy-delivery systems. That’s what it takes to bring you the most reliable and resilient energy in the nation, even in extreme winter weather.

Winter energy bills are typically higher than autumn bills. As the days grow shorter and colder, and you start using more energy for lighting and heating.

Some parts of your bill will likely go up based on how you heat your home. If you use electric heating, the electric portion of your bill could be higher during the winter. If you’re using natural gas for heating, your electric bill could be lower this season while the gas portion of your bill will be higher.

Energy supply costs may go up on frigid days when demand is greatest. On rare occasions, such as the coldest days of winter or during prolonged cold spells, we may ask you to conserve energy.
