Curbside Composting Is Mandatory
All NYC residents must separate yard waste, food scraps, and food-soiled paper from trash and recycling. Starting April 1, 2025, property owners may be subject to fines for noncompliance.
Make sure all your food scraps (dairy & meat too!) go in the bin. Same for yard waste and food-soiled paper.

IBX Open House
The MTA will be starting the Interborough Express (IBX) preliminary design as the next step in this project that will create 14 miles of new public transit between Brooklyn and Queens.
To update the community on the latest project news, the MTA is starting a new round of open houses on Thursday, March 27th, 2025.

Update on SUNY DOWNSTATE HEARING #3
On Thursday, March 13th, a public hearing was held for the SUNY Downstate Community Advisory Board. In the first two meetings, hundreds of community members, business owners, medical professionals, and faith leaders lined up to provide feedback to the nine board members.
We encourage everyone to continue participating and to invite others to join. It’s important to keep sharing your voice and showing support for SUNY Downstate Hospital!
A fourth hearing will be scheduled, but the date and time are yet to be determined.

Heat Season is in Effect Through May 31st
Every year from October 1st through May 31st, landlords must comply with Heat Season rules. If you don’t have heat or hot water, contact your superintendent. If service is not restored, file a complaint with 311.

Lien Sale
A tax lien is a legal claim placed on your property by the City due to unpaid property taxes, water and sewer charges, and other property-related charges.
If you don’t resolve your debt, the City will sell the lien to an authorized buyer. When the City sells a lien, it’s not selling your property. The lien holder buys the right to collect the money that you owe the City. Liens are never offered for sale to the general public.
If the taxes and/or charges are not paid or resolved, the new lienholder can begin a foreclosure proceeding in court.
The next lien sale is scheduled for May 20, 2025.

On February 21st, the Commerce Committee had the pleasure of joining Commissioner Dynishal Gross of NYC Small Business Services, Council Member Farah Louis, and Camille Hastick, VP of Government Affairs at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, for a Small Business Walk Thru. They visited Bamboo Walk, Lilli Restaurant, Spices & Slices, and Sweet Sundays Cafe—highlighting the incredible businesses that help our community thrive.
It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local entrepreneurs, discuss their needs, and explore ways to support small businesses in our neighborhood!
