Community Catch - April 2023
THANK YOU FISH VOLUNTEERS!
In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which took place earlier this month, the Broomfield FISH team would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteers for the incredible work they do. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization, and our work to feed families and fuel hope would not be possible without their vital support. We are fortunate to have had 200+ regular volunteers, as well as many on and off-site groups, give 20,000 hours over the past year in support of our mission! Please enjoy the video we created as small way to celebrate our wonderful volunteers.
A Year of Strength and Resilience

Read about how FISH, as a member of the Colorado Family Resource Center Association, helps neighbors in need on their path to self-sufficiency so that they can thrive! Did you know that in 2022 FISH served 12,553 unduplicated people, or one in seven Broomfield residents, with food, housing, utility assistance, transportation, and family development programs last year? We did this through generous community support and collaboration with more than 30 local partners. Check out FISH's 2022 Annual Report to learn more and to hear stories of strength and resilience from our participants!
"COURTING" Monthly Donors

Our March Madness Campaign was a fun way to encourage recurring donations at FISH. We want to give a huge thank you to Ryan, Kurt, Dawson, Grant, Mike, Brennan, and R.J. for competing in our tournament and helping to raise funds to feed families and fuel hope. Together, they brought in more than 60 donors whose gifts will total over $12,000 throughout the year! We are grateful to everyone who supported this campaign and continues to support our work. And check out the video to see who has the best basketball skills in Broomfield!
Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 13th!

Stamp Out Hunger is FISH's biggest food drive of the year! In conjunction with the National Association of Letter Carriers, we hope to collect more than 60,000 pounds of food that day! Look for your Stamp Out Hunger bag in the mail, fill it--and any other bags--with non-perishable, non-glass food donations, then leave it by your mailbox for your postal carrier to collect. Your donations on May 13th help families access the food they need to thrive.
We are looking for volunteers to help on the day of the drive! Click here to learn more and sign up.
If you cannot participate on the 13th, you can still join the fight to stamp out hunger through monetary donations!
Pinwheels for Prevention

April is Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month! Our partner organization, and 6 Garden Center neighbor, the Broomfield Early Childhood Council has been planting these pinwheels around our community as a reminder that we all play a role in children's lives. Child abuse awareness and prevention helps communities as a whole recognize the importance of family support and where to turn in times of need.
Meet Our Team
Diana Ruiz (she/her), a Bilingual Participant Services Advocate on our Participant Services team, has been with FISH since August 2022! She says that her favorite part of FISH is "our amazing participants and our staff, who are passionate and knowledgeable in their respective areas!" When she is not at FISH, she enjoys coffee shops, sunny days out with her dog, and staying in the loop about social work and social justice movements.
