Community Catch - August 2022
Our Family Fun Day & Resource Fair was AMAZING! Thank you to everyone who participated in this community-building event. We had 21 partner organizations and more than 150 community members come for an evening of music, dancing, games, mingling, and snacks. Special thanks to the very talented Ryan Steele for providing live tunes! We also had a free vaccination clinic and helped 83 people get vaccines and booster shots. Is it too early to say we are already looking forward to next year?
Use Your Colorado Cash Back to Help Families in Need!

Have you received your TABOR refund from the Colorado Department of Revenue in the mail? If you are in the position to do so, we hope that you will consider donating part or all of your refund to help feed families and fuel hope. Your support is critical to FISH's work to prevent hunger and homelessness. We are seeing an increase in need now due to rising costs for food, gas, and housing, which makes it even harder for low-income residents to make ends meet.
Boy Scout Collects 1500+ Pounds of Food for FISH!

Dylan Dunnington with Boy Scout Troop 767 organized an incredible food drive for FISH. He brought fellow scouts together at King Soopers to gather donations and they collected an astounding 1,508 pounds of food and $216.45 in monetary donations. Thank you Dylan for going above and beyond to make a difference in our community and help feed families in need!
Volunteer Spotlight: Pam Layton

This month, we are highlighting one of our amazing marketplace shift leaders, Pam Layton! While she has just been with FISH for a little over a year, she has taken on many roles, including helping to build our No Kid Hungry boxes and representing FISH at events in our community as an ambassador! Pam shares, "I enjoy working in the market and getting to meet the families that we support. I am very thankful to get to volunteer with such a wonderful group of other volunteers and staff and to be a part of a great organization." Outside of FISH, Pam enjoys spending time with her family and friends, riding her bike, taking walks with her husband, and watching football games (Go Broncos)! Thank you, Pam, for being so kind and sharing FISH's mission with our community!

We are delighted to announce that Broomfield FISH has been selected as the recipient charity by local orchestra Ensemble Charité for its September concert. Ensemble Charité is a Broomfield-based music for charity organization that brings together professional and pre-professional musicians, offers world-class live performances, and donates ticket proceeds to local charities.

In the September 20, 2022 concert scheduled for 7pm at Broomfield Auditorium, Ensemble Charité will be performing Das Lied von der Erde (“The song of the earth”), Mahler’s late masterpiece.

All ticket proceeds will be donated to Broomfield FISH.
Congratulations Heart of Broomfield Award Winners!

We are very excited that two dear members of our FISH Family are 2022 Heart of Broomfield Award winners!
Sharon Tessier- Walter P. Spader Lifetime Award

Sharon, Broomfield FISH's former Housing Advocate Manager and the current Housing Programs Manager for the City and County of Broomfield, is truly working to make our community the best home it can be for all of our neighbors. She is dedicated to ensuring that everyone in Broomfield has a safe and stable place to live and she works tirelessly to support housing efforts, including leading our Keeping Families Housed program while she was on staff here. She exudes care and compassion for participants and uplifts everyone she encounters. Congratulations Sharon, for being an inspiring leader in our community!
Lori Lane - Heart & Soul Award

The Heart & Soul Award is given to an individual who consistently gives of themselves to their neighbors, local groups and even strangers, and whose actions are the epitome of a community with heart. No truer words could be said of Lori Lane. She came to FISH before the pandemic and then connected with our partner organization, the Refuge, where she now works helping others who are experiencing homelessness. She is the cold weather care initiative Hotel Liaison who, during inclement weather, coordinates the program with hotel staff, Broomfield FISH, Broomfield Human Services, and the Refuge. As Lori says, “We all need help. We just need to make sure we know where to go for that help. Broomfield is a community that brings everyone together. And I love it.”
Embracing Hope is back!

Our fall luncheon will be held on Thursday, October 13th at the Gatehouse Venue of the Lionsgate Event Center. This event is FISH's largest fundraiser of the year and is a time to celebrate all of the good that we have created together as neighbors helping neighbors. Donations from this event support our mission throughout the year, allowing us to provide healthy food options in the marketplace, assist families through emergencies like job loss or health problems, and keep families housed. Doors open at 11 am, with lunch beginning at 11:30 am. It is free to attend and we welcome new sponsors!
THANK YOU TO OUR EARLY EMBRACING HOPE SPONSORS!
