Project Update
August 19, 2021
GVCO Community Center Sitework Continues at Bacton Hill

With each week that passes Spear Excavating continues to make progress on the site. The weather has been pretty good to GVCO as the cool nights and decent amount of rain has been enough to get the grass on the playing field to germinate and turn green with grass.
Tons of soil has been moved as the long lower stormwater basin is being formed. See the old GVBL Center building in the background.
The building pad is beginning to take shape.
See the vision of our new Great Valley Community Center to find out all that will be offered at the new facility.

Being the Queen is not all about singing, and being a diva is not all about singing. It has much to do with your service to people. And your social contributions to your community and your civic contributions as well.

GVCO Caring Hands
Record Number of Volunteers Signing Up for upcoming Year of Service to our Community!
For years our GVCO Caring Hands foundation has focused on working with local partners to better assist the many needs in the region. This coming fall we are pleased to announce that we've added two new collaborative efforts.

Come join us in making a difference
This September, we will be working with the Brandywine Valley SPCA in association with their donation drive. And in November, we will be helping the Home of the Sparrow with their Winter White Out event.
Again this October, we will be hosting our 3rd annual donation drive to benefit Cradles2Crayons. Start putting the gently used clothing and shoes the kids have grown out of in a bag, as October is right around the corner!
We would also like to welcome this year’s Caring Hands student leadership co-presidents Mia and Lauren. These two join a long list of the many middle school and high school volunteers who signed up to help out this year.
GVCO Community Partnership
Announcing a new GVCO Partnership

For many years, GVCO has enjoyed a tremendous relationship with Temple University's School of Sports Tourism and Hospitality Management. Recently GVCO has reached out to Immaculata's Office of Career and Professional Development to initiate a similar relationship.

As a local community partner, Immaculata is a natural fit for GVCO as we continue to develop further programming here in the Great Valley Community. Immaculata has strength in areas like adult programs and Education - areas that GVCO plans to focus on with the onset of the new facility. As we move into the new school year, look for GVCO and Immaculata working together for the betterment of our local community.

Despite the occassional heat and rain, it was great getting the kids runnin' outdoors and seeing all the parents, friends and neighbors enjoying the games from lawn chairs in the grass. 469 kids participated - what a great community feel!

Congrats to this year's summer league champions...but bigger congrats to all those who participated, players, coaches, referees and spectators. For the most part there was lots of smiles, some very good basketball and great sportsmanship - just the way the GVBL mission and vison is drawn up!

GVCO Donor Spotlight
Richard E. Schoeninger

I am a lifelong resident of Chester County and would not live anywhere else. My two children, Allison and Drew, went through the Great Valley School system from 1 - 12th grade. My wife, Danielle, was the Director of Special Education for the school district and now is the Co Director of Human Resources at the CCIU. My son played in the GVCO basketball league and I coached his team. It was a great experience for him and me as well.

I was an avid tennis player, but in recent years have gravitated to Pickleball as my sport of choice. I became involved with GVCO through Pickleball. I enjoyed helping new players learn how to play the game and watching new players become avid participants. When we started out, we had about 25 players. Since then, we have over had 200 players who have come to the old GVCO gym to pick up the game. It was great to see the success of a new program and to join a group of people who managed the growth and administration of the sport in our facility.
I also wanted to contribute monetarily to help build a new facility for not just Pickleball, but all the activities the GVCO offers. The community desperately needs this organization to help our community. GVCO is coming close to opening this facility, but still needs contributions.
GVCO Sponsor Spotlight
Haly Oil, now Haly Home Comfort, started in 1985 with one truck and one customer. Delivering home heating oil was the initial focus, but it wasn’t long before a service department was added.

Today, as the 35th anniversary approaches, the mission-driven Haly Companies strive to provide home comfort and energy services around the clock in the most customer-friendly way possible. And, Walter “Bud” Haly, owner and co-founder, continues to put customers and the community first, just as he did when he began delivering oil in 1985.

Bud and the entire Haly family have given GVCO an incredible amount of time, energy, resources and service throughout its 20+ years in existence. “We’re a family-owned business,” Bud says. “We live where you live, we raise our kids here, and we strive to have a positive impact on the environment. Our community is your community, and your friends are our friends.” And this epitomizes GVCO’s mission and goals. GVCO is proud to partner with our local friend and business owner.
