GVCO Community Center

Two very good questions came out of our recent donor appreciation event a couple of weekends ago. To keep the community better informed, we created graphics so all might better understand the financial picture with regard to the progress with the new GVCO Community Center.

"Since the inception of our GVBC capital campaign in 2015, where did the monies raised come from?"
The overwhelming majority of the money raised has come from contribution pledges by local families with in the community. More than $1.8 million dollars - 79% - came from families here in the district! Of that, nearly $130,000 was matched by an employer of those who donated. We cannot stress enough, because of the corporate presence in the area, how important it is to see if your employer has a matching contribution program. Most corporations have this type of program that is dedicated to non-profit community organizations such as GVCO. Often, the match is significant and can substantially increase the financial impact. Thank you to all the families who donated to GVCO.

"Since the inception of our new GVCO Community Center project in 2015, where has the money been spent?"
Those experienced in projects like ours have told us repeatedly that building the building is the easy part. The time, due diligence and resources required prior to construction are the painful part. Roughly $1 million was spent to purchase the land in early 2019. Nearly $410,000 or 21%, has been spent on architecture and engineering of the project. The vast majority of that expense occurred long before the land purchase. The required pre-construction site work has begun in earnest and accounts for $218,000 or just 11% of the project.

Drive by the Bacton Hill Rd site to see a good deal of progress. The great news...everything you see is paid for. To date we have incurred no debt.

However our work is not done with raising additional funding to complete the project. The pie charts and the financial review above are what has happened with the project. In subsequent messaging going forward, we will begin to outline the substantial costs involved in completing this project, how it is attainable and the overwhelming positive impact it will have for all of the residents and families in our Great Valley community.
See the vision of our new Great Valley Community Center to find out all that will be offered at the new facility.
Community cannot for long feed on itself; it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond, their unknown and undiscovered brothers.

GVCO Caring Hands
Thanks so much to all who donated to our Cradles to Crayones Drive. The donations are very appreciated!
For years our GVCO Caring Hands foundation has focused on working with local partners to better assist the many needs in the region. Students in grades 7-12, come join us in making a difference
GVCO Community Partnership
Philadelphia is the nation's poorest big city with nearly 300,000 children living in poverty across the region. Cradles to Crayons Philadelphia has a reach that goes well beyond the borders of the city itself.

Chester County, including the Malvern area, is included in the region in which Cradles to Crayons is having an impact. GVCO is once again partnering with Cradles to Crayons, hosting our 3rd Annual Donation Drive. Reaching out to our Great Valley community in an effort to help those right here in our area.

Part of Cradles to Crayons' mission: "Our whole focus is to make our collaborative process as easy and streamlined as possible. This helps us to empower the children we serve collaboratively — at home, at school, and at play — by providing the everyday essentials that match their individual needs." GVCO's reach here in the community, coupled with Cradles to Crayons' ability to reach those in need is the perfect partnership for our GVCO Caring Hands foundation.

Childhood poverty is a serious nationwide issue and the local area is not immune. Without adequate and appropriate clothing, children face unfair barriers and participate in life on an unequal playing field. Cradles to Crayons uses the term “Clothing Insecurity” as part of our efforts to formally recognize the issue, and increase awareness on this hidden basic need.

GVCO is proud to be partnering with such a worthy organization in helpng Cradles to Crayons reach its inspiring mission and goals.

Winter Basketball

Our main goal since September has been to, as quickly as possible, get the kids out onto the court playing basketball. Since there are so many families involved across all divisions, and so many things to accomplish, it's tough to fit the whole process into such a short timeframe. So please follow along on the website, in the GVBL app and on our Around The Rim constant contact weekly updates.

Daughter:"Hey Dad",
Me, "Greatest thing I'll ever be"

What GVCO provided for me and the girls CAN NOT be overstated. Picking them up after school, getting to practice/games, out to eat, hanging with other parents, etc. We got to interact/experience a bit of actual day/day life on life's terms. Nothing takes the place of being there and for sure some things would have been different. So many experiences, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want". I got to play Dad and coach...and the girls had a role model.

Know that GVCO has made a difference in the lives of my daughters and myself. That is very noble.

GVCO was recently nominated and awarded a $1000 contribution from the Mattioni Cares Program.

For over seventy years, Mattioni Plumbing, Heating & Cooling has proudly served the Chester County area. Not only do they provide professional services, but they genuinely care about the community they serve. The Mattioni Care’s Program was started to recognize local organizations, charities, and youth sports programs for the excellent work they do in the community. Mattioni Plumbing, Heating & Cooling knows that this type of programming helps positively impact the community and, in turn, wants to reward those groups for the good that they do.
