Latest Threat - Cryptowall Ransomware Schemes
FBI Alert I-06232015-PSA
Criminals continue to defraud and extort funds from individuals and businesses using Crypotwall Ransomware, according to an FBI Public Service Announcement, which points out the continuing danger of clicking
on an infected advertisement, email, or attachment or visiting an infected website. Ransomware is a type of malware (or malicious software) that blocks access to a computer system or files until a monetary amount is paid.
Tips to protect yourself:
- Always use antivirus software and a firewall. It's important to obtain and use antivirus software and firewalls from reputable companies. It's also important to continually maintain both of these through automatic updates.
- Enable popup blockers. Popups are regularly used by criminals to spread malicious software. To avoid accidental clicks on or within popups, it's best to prevent them from appearing in the first place.
- Always back up the content on your computer. If you back up, verify, and maintain offline copies of your personal and application data, ransomware scams will have limited impact on you. If you are targeted, instead of worrying about paying a ransom to get your data back, you can simply have your system wiped clean and then reload your files.
- Be skeptical. Don't click on any emails or attachments you don't recognize, and avoid suspicious websites altogether.

Rotary 2015 Enterprise Institute - April 17 - 19
Chief Lending Officer Wil Hobbs
The Enterprise Institute of the Rotary Club of Oakland was started in 1982; it was based on a program developed by the Los Angeles Rotary Club. The Enterprise Institute is one of Oakland Rotary's signature programs and touches between 60 and 80 high school juniors annually. Over the last 32 years the program has been refined into its present day form and it will continue to change as the times and business methods evolve. In the spirit of the program's refinement and evolution, in the Summer of 2014 Wil joined 4 other Rotarians who completely rewrote the program curriculum. The new curriculum was greeted with praise by students and Rotarians who participated in April. During the 2-1/2 days of the Institute, high school juniors from the public, private, and chartered high schools in Oakland,Piedmont and Emeryville work in groups of six- ten students. Each group also includes a Peer Counselor (a returning student participant from the previous year, now a senior) and at least one Rotarian. Each group is made up of students from different schools.
Using short lectures and the case study method, after working through three scenarios and making interim presentations on their solutions, in their final exercise each group develops a business plan for their own product. This plan includes a product description, strategic SWOT analysis of each scenario, cost and revenue projections to influence and refine the strategic analysis, marketing plans, and a product "tag line" or slogan. On the last day, each student group presents their business plan to Rotarians and the other participants for consideration. Rotarian judges, acting as potential bankers, evaluate each team's presentation. Wil was the Institute's first "real" banker to act as a facilitator and judge. The Enterprise Institute is held at Camp Monte Toyon in the Santa Cruz Mountains' foothills near Aptos.

The Oakland Office had an exciting day on June 19th when the Golden State Warriors Parade came through Downtown Oakland. Located along on the parade route, with a spectacular view from Suite 1550 and the 5th floor where the property management threw a viewing party for the tenants and a front row seat from the porch, it was a great day to be in Oakland. If you missed it, we would like to offer you a chance to experience it as if you were there. View the CBB Virtual GSW Parade now on Flickr.

Daniel Fujimoto Accepted to Pacific Coast Banking School
CBB invests in its future leaders
Exciting things are happening in the life of our own Dan Fujimoto. In August he starts a three year program at Pacific Coast Banking School (PCBS). PCBS's graduate-level curriculum, offered in partnership with the Graduate School of Business at the University of Washington, has been grooming banking leaders since 1938. Daniel's acceptance is recognition of both his professional accomplishments and leadership potential. And... he is getting married!
Congratulations Dan!
