Today, civic participation occurs at many levels. We make impactful decisions about our community every time we make a purchase, vote, post on social media and, of course, volunteer. We think any awareness we can bring to the many resources that might spur individual action for good, falls right in line with what we’re up to at HandsOn.

AmeriCorp VISTA Update

Congratulations to Kailey for finishing her year of service!

Kailey spent the past year working as the Food Systems Coordinator at City of Phoenix, Office of Environmental Programs. Kailey described her AmeriCorps service year as everything she could’ve hoped for. Kailey deepened her connection and understanding of the Phoenix community while learning about food insecurity. Kailey is honored to be staying on the City’s Food Team to continue the work she started during her service year!

Welcome Margret, we are excited to have you on the VISTA team!

She will be working in the City of Phoenix- Office of Sustainability. Margret is looking forward to her service year because "sustainability education is incredibly important going forward with efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change. . Her goal for this year is to help further the progress that the City of Phoenix made and know that she had a positive impact on communities."

Urban Farming at Human Services Campus

Join us on January 27th, 8- 11 am, to help with the care and maintenance of the Human Services Campus Urban Farm! Activities may include weed & grass removal, watering, trash removal, harvesting, planting, and chicken care.

St. Vincent de Paul's three urban farms provide 33,000 pounds of produce, which helps feed individuals and families experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.

We want to thank Chris & Becky Stingle for their dedication to HandsOn for so many years!

Their project, Kickball at Civitan House, is the very first project that we offered 30 years ago on our opportunity calendar. Chris & Becky have been leading this project for 20 years and we cannot thank them enough!
