Good to Know: The Chula Vista, National City, and San Diego Police Departments will be the first three agencies in California to participate in the Lights On! Program. Lights On is a program developed by a Minneapolis-based nonprofit (MicroGrants) that partners with law enforcement and auto service providers to replace lighting equipment traffic tickets with repair vouchers. Did you know the Chula Vista Community Shuttle provides free rides for seniors 55 and older in electric vehicles throughout northwest Chula Vista? Learn more.


Looking for good, fresh fish? Then stop by the new Community Fish Market at 72 East J Street (just west of Fire Station 2). Learn more.


Do you know an owner of a multi-family, commercial or industrial building 20,000 square feet or larger in Chula Vista? City staff is reaching out to building owners about the City’s Building Energy Saving Ordinance and the upcoming compliance deadline of May 20. Learn more.


On Friday, March 24, the Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) hosted their first Dick’s Sporting Goods Shopping Spree with Chula Vista Police  a community partnership event where 10 local students got the opportunity to shop with CVPD officers, using $150 gift cards generously provided by Dick’s Sporting Goods in conjunction with a 20% discount. Casa Anita, a new affordable housing community in Chula Vista, opened on March 24 and is already fully leased. Learn more.


Things to Do: The Chula Vista Public Library has several great activities in April for all ages. At the Civic Center Branch, 365 F Street, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) will focus on Earth Month activities. Learn more.


At the South Branch, 389 Orange Avenue, Family Game Night will be held every Monday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Parks and Recreation also has many classes and activities offered for the entire family. Learn more.

Our Office of Sustainability has completed its inaugural Zero Waste Academy and 17 participants have become the first-ever Chula Vista Zero Waste Champions. Learn more.


Neighborhood Beautification: Construction is continuing at Loma Verde Community and Aquatics Center. The project, funded by the Measure P half-cent sales tax, is expected to be completed later this year. Learn more.


Park Rangers, in conjunction with Public Works, Alpha Project, and McAlister (Work for Hope) collected 36,860 pounds of trash and 87 shopping carts for this month’s OPERATION PRIDE efforts. Learn more.
