May has officially arrived and with it come many activities, events, and opportunities that we are excited to share with you in our latest newsletter.


I would like to thank all Chula Vista residents who participated in our J.E.D.I Community Building Roundtables. Thank you for sharing your perspectives, ideas, and experiences. Legislative Updates


The City is currently sponsoring a bill to advance our university efforts. Assembly Bill 837, authored by Assemblymember David Alvarez, is making its way through the California State Assembly. Click here to read more.

Measure P: New Traffic Signals


Currently, the City is using Measure P funds (the half-cent ten-year sales tax approved by voters in 2016) to provide a complete overhaul at several City intersections. Click here to read more.

Good to Know: Create Chula Vista has opened a new photography exhibit, "Chula Vista Legacies," celebrating the diverse people who have shaped the City's history and culture. Learn more.


In July 2022, the City began the new Food Waste Collection program in which requires all food waste and food-soiled paper products could now go into residential green bins with any yard trimmings. Learn more.


The You Are Not Alone (YANA) program is an outreach program for disabled or senior citizens who live alone. Learn more.


We bid farewell to several long-time City employees retiring in May. Thank you for your service to our City! Learn more.


All City offices and facilities will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 29. Trash pick-up in the City will be delayed one day.

S.T.E.A.M. events at the Library will focus on all things space. Events are held every Thursday at 6 p.m. for ages 7-12. Learn more.

Enjoy a free concert to celebrate Mother's Day on Saturday, May 13 at the Civic Center Library.


Get Involved: Applications are now being accepted for several City boards and commissions. Chula Vista youth ages 16-22 also have an opportunity to get involved with their city! Learn more.

Our Animal Service is always looking for foster pet parents. And several of our long-time doggies are still looking for their forever homes. Can you help? Learn more.


Neighborhood Beautification: Park Rangers, in conjunction with Public Works, Alpha Project, and McAlister (Work for Hope) collected 23,380 pounds of trash and 69 shopping carts for this month’s OPERATION PRIDE efforts. Learn more.

Enjoy the month of May outdoors in one of our beautiful City parks, at the bayfront, or your favorite location to enjoy Mother Nature! All that rain has brought some beautiful wildflowers to our area.
