Welcome!

Welcome to the very first edition of Community Connections, our newly renovated newsletter dedicated to sharing the stories, milestones, and moments that bring our communities to life.

In this issue, we’re proud to highlight one of our Voices of Bellwether, Tony Sofge, whose story reflects the strength, resilience, and spirit that define our residents. We’re also excited to share updates from our recent Prisma Groundbreaking Event, an important step forward in expanding affordable housing and creating more opportunities for individuals and families in our region.

Be sure to mark your calendars as we announce the date for our annual Closer to Home luncheon, a special gathering to connect, celebrate, and support our mission together.

You’ll also find updates on innovative efforts across our communities, including a new cost-saving water program at Sunrise Tower and the growing impact of our food pantry at Cedar Crossing, helping ensure residents have access to essential resources.

Finally, we’re delighted to showcase highlights from recent resident events, moments of connection, joy, and community that remind us why this work matters so much.

Thank you for being part of the Bellwether community. We’re excited to share these stories with you and look forward to many more ahead.

Finding Home, Light, and Community in Seattle

When Tony Sofge talks about his apartment, one detail stands out right away: the light.

“The light is important to me,” he says. His Capitol Hill apartment fills with sunlight during the day, something visitors notice the moment they walk in.

Tony has called three Bellwether Housing communities home over nearly four decades.

Closer to Home - Save The Date

October 8, 2026 at the Seattle Westin

This luncheon event is Bellwether Housing’s signature fundraiser. Your support will help provide safe, affordable housing and essential services, ensuring families and seniors can live near jobs, schools, parks, and transit helping prevent displacement and strengthening communities.

We are honored to welcome Raj Chetty as the keynote speaker.

His work has fundamentally changed how we understand the connection between home and future outcomes. Through large-scale data analysis, Raj and his team have shown that where a child grows up — access to stable housing, safe neighborhoods, and opportunity-rich communities — can have a profound impact on lifelong earnings, education, and overall well-being.

New Water Metering Program

Just the Beginning!

Bellwether recently piloted a new water conservation system that uses real-time water meters to better monitor usage. As part of the effort, sensor-equipped water valves were installed on each toilet to automatically stop toilet leaks.

The impact has been significant at Sunrise Tower: average daily water usage at the building has dropped by 17%. Estimated annual savings are $23,500.

Because utilities are included in the affordable rents we charge, reducing excess water use has a direct impact on our operating costs and overall financial sustainability. At the same time, we’re conserving a valuable natural resource.

Based on these results, the next step is to explore expanding this technology to other properties with high water usage.

Cedar Crossing Food Pantry and Volunteer Program

The Cedar Crossing food pantry has continued to be a successful joint program with our partner Family Works. Every other Wednesday, residents can pick up groceries for their families.

With food expenses increasing 2-3.3% last year alone, this partnership is helping many families ease the burden of inflation.

Email our Community Engagement Specialist to find out how you or your organization can help make a difference!

Prisma Groundbreaking

Breaking New Ground

In February we celebrated the groundbreaking of Prisma in Redmond. Prisma represents more than a new building. It’s new beginnings, stability for families and individuals, and a continued commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods that people of all incomes can call home. Stay tuned as we turn vision into reality; we can’t wait to share this journey with you! Prisma is the result of deep collaboration across public, private, and community partners who are building this vision with us.

Resident Events

Our buildings are all about community. The first quarter of 2026 saw some fun celebrations around our Bellwether properties. Residents celebrated Fat Tuesday, rooted for the 'Hawks in the Super Bowl, and went on a sensory journey as they made healing candles.

Thanks to our amazing Resident Services Team for making events like this happen!
