Reminder:
Late Start~ Inclement Weather Plan
A change in inclement weather planning is taking place this year. DC West Community Schools may delay the start of the school day by two hours instead of calling a full snow day that has to be made up at the end of the year. The two-hour late start provides time for families to avoid rush hour traffic and additional time for streets, sidewalks, and parking lots to be cleared, allowing for safer travel to school in inclement weather conditions. A two-hour late start will most likely be called the evening before and if the late start turns into a full-day closure, an updated message will be communicated to families.
·
Start time for a two-hour late start will be
10:00 a.m.
·
Buses
will run two hours later than usual.
·
There will be
no morning preschool
on a late start day. Afternoon preschool will be scheduled as
normal.
·
Breakfast
will not
be served but school lunch will be served as usual.
·
Early morning activities will be canceled.
Staff
will report accordingly on a late start day:
·
Emergency Staff (District Office and Administration):
Please report at your normal time
·
Teachers:
No later than 9:45 a.m.
·
Food Service:
Please report per supervisor instruction
·
Grounds, Maintenance and Custodial:
Please report per supervisor instruction
·
All Other Staff:
Please report 2 hours after your normal report time, unless your normal report
time begins after the late start time
All weather related delays and closings will be communicated through email, phone calls, social media, and news station announcements. We understand the inconvenience that weather cancellations and delays create for families, but we will always prioritize student and staff safety by taking the time to make the best decision possible given the nature of weather and forecasting
