Beacon of Light Awards honor 9 African American leaders


ECTC celebrated nine area leaders at the 2022 Beacon of Light Awards, which honor African Americans in the college’s 10-county service area for their successes, exemplary service to their professions and communities, and their commitment to servant leadership and equity. Awardees included, from left, Chris Thomas, Tawana Owens, Stan Holmes, Carrie Ann Pride, Howard Williams, Pastor Gloria Fite, Sam Franklin, and (not pictured) Lynnette Kennedy and Joe I. Tutoring drives student success, volunteers needed


Student success is a driving force for everything ECTC implements and executes. Tutoring services are just one of those important opportunities supporting student success, said Alexis Hutchinson, First Year Experience (FYE) program staff.


“Students who receive tutoring have significantly higher grades compared to those who do not receive tutoring, but the positive outcomes don't stop with improved grades,” said Hutchinson. “They also benefit from improved study habits, improved social skills, improved self-esteem, confidence, and more.”

International PTK Honor Society celebrates ECTC president


ECTC President and CEO Dr. Juston Pate has been named a Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction recipient by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK). Pate is one of 13 recipients selected from among 617 college presidents eligible to receive the award.

Senior Days gets high school seniors ready for Fall 2022


ECTC Senior Days is helping take the guesswork out of the transition from high school to college. The early enrollment events bring a team of advisors, financial aid counselors and student support staff to meet with students one on one to answer all their questions and enroll them in Fall 2022 classes.

ECTC, ARC, LTWDB partnership builds workforce, aids in recovery


Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Workforce Solutions announced a new partnership with the Lincoln Trail Workforce Development Board (LTWDB) and Addiction Recovery Care (ARC)’s Crown Recovery Center in Springfield. This unique relationship will both help meet a workforce need and provide a way for people in addiction recovery to build a better life.

First-year student finds support in CODE


North Hardin High School graduate and ECTC freshman Kwame Theus chose to stay local to begin his college career after hearing former classmates boast of the supportive atmosphere ECTC provides, he said. He’s found that support with the CODE (Creating Opportunities for Diversity in Education) program. 


“CODE helps students come together as one and offers tutoring and scholarships to help students succeed along with events to connect with one another and learn new things,” said Theus.
