COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
The DC West Board of Education and I would like to say THANK YOU to our DC West Community! We feel grateful that we were able to work in partnership with you to have a safe and healthy school year in person. We know that this wouldn't have been possible without your trust and support in us. We are extremely proud of our staff and students as this year was like no other. We feel honored to lead and serve our DC West Community!

In addition, we also THANK YOU for your support in passing a $16.8M bond issue to complete a renovation/new construction project for middle school expansion, a new auditorium and fine arts wing, as well as renovation of our physical education spaces in the high school. This bond was the first one passed in DC West history, and the first in Valley or Waterloo since 1991.

Bond Project Timeline
We have begun our design process for the recently passed bond project. A preliminary timeline of the construction is:

June 2021-January 2022
Finalize Design and Plans, Hire Construction Management at Risk Firm

January 2022-Spring 2022
Bid and Begin Construction

Spring 2022-Spring 2023
Construct and Renovate the New Middle School, Auditorium, and Fine Arts Wing

Spring 2023-Summer 2023
Finalize Construction and Renovate Current Middle School into new Physical Education Space (locker, wrestling, and weight rooms)

Summer Projects at DC West
ADA (American Disabilities Act) Compliant Bleachers and Pressbox at the Stadium
New Metal Roofing and Exterior Trim Maintenance on the Middle/High School Building
You will notice some construction going on this summer at DC West. The maintenance projects at the stadium and on the exterior of the middle/high school building have started and will be completed mid August. These projects are being completed with our general maintenance funds in our annual budget.
DC West Honors
Congratulations to Mrs. Judy Smith, High School Health Teacher and Athletic Trainer and Ms. Carol Hagemann, Speech Language Pathologist on their retirement! Judy served DC West for 21 years and Carol for 8 years. We appreciate both of these professionals for their service to DC West, they will both be missed!

COVID-19 at DC West

We have continued to update you on cumulative cases and quarantines throughout the 2020-2021 school year. The following is the final data from the entire year. A couple of definitions for this data are; a COVID positive staff or student is one who received a positive result on a COVID test, a quarantine is an individual who is positive with COVID or one who had a close contact exposure to a person with a positive result on a COVID test.
