ECTC celebrates First Generation Week


For the second year in a row, ECTC has celebrated the tenacity and dedication of first-generation students through First Generation Week. Nearly one in five ECTC students is considered first generation, meaning neither parent holds a college degree. From Nov. 6-8, the college hosted events that raised awareness of the unique obstacles these students may face and fostered connections between students and community members with similar experiences.

ECTC announces naming of Robbins University Center


ECTC is recognizing the generosity of Dr. Robert and Rita Robbins by naming the college’s University Center in their honor.


The couple made history in 2018 when ECTC received $1 million, its largest private donation to date, from the Dr. Robert E. and Rita H. Robbins Fund of Central Kentucky Community Foundation.

ECTC accepting nominations for Beacon of Light Awards


ECTC is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Beacon of Light Awards, which honor African Americans in the ECTC service area (Breckinridge, Green, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Taylor, and Washington counties) for their successes, exemplary service to their professions and communities, and their commitment to servant leadership and equity.

ECTC, CKCF announce $100K gift match

for Home for Hope campaign


Central Kentucky Community Foundation will match all donations to ECTC’s Home for Hope campaign, up to $100,000. The dollar-for-dollar donation match, which runs now until Dec. 4, will support ECTC and Family Scholar House’s efforts to build on-campus housing for student parents.

Family Scholar House feeds 100 families for Thanksgiving


Once again, Family Scholar House has celebrated Thanksgiving by distributing meals to ECTC students and their families in need. Thanks to a meal drive supported by the community, FSH was able to feed 100 families, a total of 448 individuals. Last year saw the distribution of meals to 65 families, 343 individuals.

Student Veteran Organization offers camaraderie, encouragement


ECTC has a longstanding tradition of welcoming military veterans and seeking out ways to make their time at the college easier. That is distinctly evident in both the Military and Veteran Services office and the Student Veteran Organization.

Family Scholar House gives support, hope


“Family Scholar House has a real effect on real people,” said Tera New, ECTC nursing student.


Tera is a single mother who knows firsthand how difficult it can be to manage life and college. As the sole caregiver for her three boys – Amden, 6; Haydren, 5; and Teagen, 3, all the worry and stress that goes with being a parent falls on her shoulders. Add in coursework and clinicals, and life can become overwhelming.

There’s no doubt scholarships help ECTC students make college even more affordable. But being named a Metallica Scholar this fall provided something even more important for Engineering and Electronics Technology student Channon Minton. It provided confidence.
