Our DC West teachers and staff members are INCREDIBLE! I hope you have noticed the amazing work of our DC West team this year. I see staff members going above and beyond daily to make this school year as safe and productive as possible. These are trying times, yet I witness our staff members working with our students at school and at home making the best of this educational year. Join me in thanking our amazing educators!

DC West Girls Cross Country
State Runner-Up
The DC West Girls High School Cross Country Team became the first athletic team to receive state honors in DC West history! This youthful team had several achievements during their Fall of 2020 season. For the first time in cross country history the girls won the UNK Invite which hosted a field of 32 Class C teams. The girl's team also broke last year's school record six times this season and established a new school record at the DC West Invite. They placed first in ten of the meets they attended, they were Nebraska Capitol Conference and District Champions and the pinnacle of the season was when they finished as State Runner Up for Class C in the State Cross Country Meet held on October 23rd. Congratulations to our DC West Girls Cross Country Team Members: (left to right) Abaigeal Aydt, Ellie McCarville, Olivia Malousek, Morgan Morrison, Maria Malousek, Maria Aydt, and Paxton Paulson along with their coaches Dan Maline, Nolan Zimmer, and Ty Hansen.
Olivia Malousek placed ninth to earn a State Medal in the Class C Girls Cross Country race!
Congratulations to Ryan McArdle on an amazing four year career at DC West and his performance in the Class C State Cross Country Meet.
Snow Days 2020
DC West Community Schools will not be changing our weather related (snow) day procedures this school year. Each year, we build in three days to the calendar for weather related conditions. Our district calendar includes these days in May. If not all of the days are used in any given year, then the last day of school is moved up accordingly.

All weather related delays and closings will be communicated through email, phone calls, social media, and news station announcements. We understand the inconvenience that weather cancellations and delays can create for families, but we will always prioritize student and staff safety by taking the time to make the best decision possible given the nature of weather and forecasting.

We may delay the start of the school day by two hours instead of calling a full snow day that has to be made up at the end of the year. The two-hour late start provides time for families to avoid rush hour traffic and additional time for streets, sidewalks, and parking lots to be cleared, allowing for safer travel to school. A two-hour late start will most likely be called the evening before and if the late start turns into a full-day closure, an updated message will be communicated to families.

·     Start time for a two-hour late start will be 10:00 a.m.
·     Buses will run two hours later than usual.
·     There will be no morning preschool on a late start day. Afternoon preschool will be
scheduled as normal.
·     Breakfast will not be served but school lunch will be served as usual.
·     Early morning activities will be canceled.
Congratulations!
Ethan Maline

Return to Learning and COVID-19 at DC West
We continue to carefully implement our protocols for the health and safety of our students in order to stay in school. One of the best indicators of the health and safety inside our schools is the data collected on our school district's positive cases and quarantines. We will continue to provide monthly data from our records in the Community Connections. This data includes students attending in person as well as remotely. A couple of definitions for this data are; a COVID positive staff or student is one who received a positive result on a COVID test, a quarantine is an individual who had a close contact exposure (closer than 6 foot for more than 15 minutes unmasked) to a person with a positive result on a COVID test.

Data reported from October 3 - October 30, 2020:
