Community Conversations, Special Election & Lippitt House Spotlights
Removing Barriers: Strengthening Democracy
Why should everyone care that some communities are not active participants in our civic society? Recent tests to our country’s democratic processes remind us of the fragility of our system. For democracy to thrive it needs an educated electorate and systems that allow for full and fair participation by everyone. Join Lippitt House Museum and Providence League of Women Voters for a series of discussions on how civic education programs for both youth and adults of color remove barriers to informed participation and support our democracy.

The discussions will be held virtually via Zoom on Monday March 15 and 22 starting at 6:00 pm. The sessions are FREE and preregistration is required.
Vote "Yes" on Question 6
Rhode Island is holding a special election to vote on seven ballot initiatives. You can vote by mail, early in-person, or on Election Day, March 2. The Secretary of State's website has helpful information on how to vote and a Guide to State Referenda.

A YES vote on Question 6 will bring renewed funding to two grant programs with long track records of investing in Rhode Island’s historic buildings: State Preservation Grants ($1 Million) and Cultural Facilities Grants ($2 Million). State Preservation Grants provide matching funds to repair historic buildings owned by nonprofits or municipalities and open to the public. Cultural Facilities Grants are for capital improvements to buildings used for programming or exhibition of any of the arts and cultural disciplines. Both grant programs are currently out of funds. A YES vote will reinvigorate these competitively awarded matching grant programs.
