Enjoy an abundance of outdoor activities, games, inflatables, music and more at the Third Annual Community Day of Play held in partnership with the Village of Romeoville Parks & Recreation Department from 4 to 6 p.m., tonight at Rotary Park, 2023 Whitmore Drive, in Romeoville. No registration is necessary for this FREE event.

Yoga added to Fall Fitness


Yoga has been added to the fall fitness lineup! Classes run 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, September 18 through October 30 at the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center. Yoga enhances flexibility, strengthens muscles, and offers a new outlook on life. Check out the FREE Trial Fitness Class 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., tomorrow.

Hunger Action Month


September is National Hunger Action Month! To help support the local food pantries, the Plainfield Park District is encouraging everyone to donate to the community food drive which benefits Bags of Hope, a private backpack food program, the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry, and St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry.

Scarecrows Needed!


Build a scarecrow and donate it to the Plainfield Park District to be displayed in three of our popular fall events. Anyone or any group can participate. This is a DIY project. Materials are not provided. To be displayed in all three events, scarecrows must be completed and delivered by September 18 to the Prairie Activity & Recreation Center.

Grinchmas Trees


Celebrate the season by purchasing your own tree to decorate for our annual tree lighting ceremony at Village Green Park. Trees are $100 if purchased before September 30. Trees are $110 when purchased October 1 through November 8. Limited trees are available.

Traveling StoryWalk


The final StoryWalk event of the season is set for 5 to 7 p.m., September 18 at Commons Park, 1949 Olde Mill Road in Plainfield, located between Wedgewood Estates, Brighton Lakes and Prairie Trail subdivisions. Join the Joliet Public Library for, "Creepy Carrots" by Aaron Reynolds with a craft and frozen treat provided by the Park District. This is a FREE event. No registration is necessary.

Youth Basketball


Registration is OPEN for our youth basketball league! Volunteer coaches introduce participants to the fundamentals of playing basketball through weekly practices and weekend games. The league emphasizes proper techniques, knowledge of the rules, team strategy, participation and fun. Enrollment in the winter is limited, so register early. Registration is done by grade. Register your child for the grade they are in for the current school year. Earlybird rate ends October 14. Registration deadline is November 8.

Inaugural Foundation Bags Tourney


Teams of two compete in a round-robin format followed by single or double-elimination tournament for a great cause. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Plainfield Park District Foundation, which provides scholarships for residents to participate in Park District programs. Fee of $45/team includes unlimited pizza and refreshments. Adult beverages are available on site for purchase. Tourney starts at 10:30 a.m., September 21 at Eaton Preserve (prior to Autumn Family Fun Fest). Sponsored by Busey Bank.

Wanted: Youth Sports Instructors


The Plainfield Park District is looking for youth sports instructors. Hours are between 3:45 and 7:15 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
