Welcome September!

August is always our slow-down month with people traveling (or staying in out of the heat). Labor Day will welcome many home, with expected, much-wanted rain. No Board meeting was held in August as staff and Directors used vacation time and took advantage of some internal house cleaning needs of the facility….fully ready for Fall return of member activities.

Board News

Your POA has been working behind the scenes to plan for a successful new fiscal year, 2025-2026. The budget meeting will be held at the September Board meeting to approve expenditures beginning Oct. 1st. Basic maintenance needs, continued collaboration on Fox Park, and planning for Fall/Winter POA member events will be the focus.

Check out the website calendar as all activities (exercise, bingo, social games) continue to welcome members to use their clubhouse, Quail Point Lodge.

Also…as POA members, keep an eye out for multiple community events you can enjoy such as those hosted by the Business Alliance (Fraud Awareness, Sept 9 at Church of Horseshoe Bay Fellowship Hall), the Hill Country 100 ( Sept 11 golf tournament and salute/support for 1st responders), HSBBA Coffee on September 24 (Quail Point Lodge), and the city (Town Hall, September 25th at Quail Point at 3 PM).

Looking ahead....October is shaping up to be an exciting month at the POA with three fantastic community events on the calendar. First up is our Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, October 2, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Quail Point Lodge. This year’s festival is bigger than ever as we combine the Consumer Showcase with the Fall Festival marketplace, filling the inside of Quail Point with energy and local vendors. Outside, the fun begins at 4:00 PM with chili tastings while supplies last—will we top last year’s lineup of nine chili cookers? Come find out and cast your vote. At 6:00 PM, the Ricky Addams Band will bring live music and dancing to the pavilion, while attendees enjoy beer and wine for sale. The evening will cap off with the crowning of our chili champions. It is truly a perfect way to celebrate the arrival of fall in Horseshoe Bay. Check out the rules if you think you have what it takes to be the Chili Champ.

Our October fun continues with the annual candy drive beginning on October 15 as we prepare for the always-popular Trunk or Treat on Halloween night. This year’s event will be extra special with the addition of a “Best Decorated Golf Cart” contest, as well as a makeup opportunity for the rained-out July 4 celebration. Families can look forward to a festive evening filled with decorated trunks, candy for the kids, a photo booth, and now some creative golf cart displays. Mark your calendars and join us for these wonderful community traditions that bring neighbors together in celebration, fun, and the spirit of the season.

Due to the exceptional information presented at Quail Point Lodge in August, this section highlights those two notable events.

On August 6, the Hill Country Choir and Gun Club welcomed Llano County Elections Administrator Andrea Wilson to Quail Point Lodge for an in-depth look at how elections are conducted and the changes ahead. Wilson, who has served in the role for three years, described her job as both challenging and rewarding, detailing the extensive planning, security measures, and compliance with ever-changing laws that are required to run elections. Attendees left with a greater understanding of the complex work required to ensure fair and secure voting.

A major focus was Senate Bill 2753, which will bring sweeping changes to early voting in Texas, though none will take effect until after this fall. The law requires an earlier start to early voting, longer daily hours, and weekend availability, while also stipulating that ballots not be counted until election day. Wilson anticipates full implementation by 2027 due to the scale of coordination needed across the state. She also discussed curbside voting safeguards, the possibility of county-wide voting in Llano County, and the differences between primary and general elections. Throughout the session, she emphasized transparency and chain-of-custody protections, reassuring residents of the integrity of the process. On August 13, the Horseshoe Bay POA’s Community Education Series featured TxDOT Project Engineer Joe Muck at Quail Point Lodge, where he presented plans for the proposed Wirtz Dam Road Project. The project would create a 3.68-mile roadway connecting RM 1431 in Marble Falls to RM 2147 in Cottonwood Shores, including a new bridge over Lake Marble Falls. Designed as a two-lane undivided road with wide lanes and shoulders, the project aims to reduce congestion on US 281, improve emergency response times, and provide an additional crossing over the Colorado River. Traffic studies suggest the new bridge could redirect thousands of vehicles daily, easing pressure on US 281. Click here for the presentation from that day.

Muck noted that projects of this scale often take many years to complete and require extensive input from both the public and local officials. Burnet County is conducting an environmental study, and the plan does not involve any residential displacements. Current work includes coordinating with utilities, landowners, and planning for drainage. Heather Ashley-Nguyen, TxDOT’s Director of Transportation Planning and Development for the Austin District, joined the presentation to help address questions from attendees. While some expressed concerns about traffic impacts on RM 2147, TxDOT emphasized the importance of continued community feedback throughout the planning process. ☕ The Horseshoe Bay POA is pleased to host this month’s Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance Coffee & Conversation on Wednesday, September 24, at 9:00 AM at Quail Point Lodge. This monthly gathering is a great opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee while connecting with neighbors, local business leaders, and fellow community members in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

😁 We invite you to join us for a meaningful conversation, community spirit, and an opportunity to strengthen the ties that make Horseshoe Bay such a special place to live.
